Mason Zeigler Dominates In 2nd Annual Sam Barley Memorial at Dog Hollow Speedway; Shaffer, Morgan, Schneider, Smith & Anderson Also Take Checkers
STRONGSTOWN, PA (July 3, 2016) - Chalk Hills Mason Zeigler put on a dominating performance to win the 2nd Annual Sam Barley Memorial for Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models at Dog Hollow Speedway. 153 cars filled the pit area including the Enduro. Jeremy Shaffer, of Derry, won for the second time in the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models with Ralph Morgan, Jr. taking the Steel Block Late Model special. Chris Schneider won the RD Shaffer Well Services Street Stocks, Kyle Smith, Jr. won his fourth in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks and Chris Anderson won the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Services FWD 4 Cylinder feature.
The pill draw saw Mason Zeigler starting outside the front row of the 45 lap Sam Barley Memorial for the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models. Zeigler went wire to wire with no competition to take home the $4000 paycheck. Only four cautions slowed the event but Zeigler was able to pull away on each restart. Andy Fries ran second for most of the race before giving the spot up to Matt Cosner. Kyle Hardy soon followed Cosner as the pair raced for second. Cosner held him off, but Hardy came up 11lbs light at the scale. Tim Senic, in his first appearance at the Dog Hollow, was third over Fries and Shawn Claar. Sixth through tenth were Dave Blazavich, Matt Lux, Rick Singleton, Dylan Yoder (from 17th) and Jim Yoder (from 19th). Qualifying heats were won by Jared Miley, Matt Lux and Zeigler. Charlie Powell, Jr. and Dylan Yoder captured the B-Mains.
Dillan Stake took the lead at the start of the 30-lap, $1000 to win, Semi Late Model feature. Stake had his mirror full of Ralph Morgan, Jr., Morgan and Stake dueled for the top spot until a yellow on lap 14. On the restart Morgan was able to gain the lead and drove off to the win. Stake was second over Rance Garlock, Tim Krape, Wendell Pickney, Robbie Garlock, Jeff Sweeney, Gale Huey, Ryan Krouse, Brad Myers, and Josh Whetstone. Garlock and Stake were the heat winners.
Bryan Benton set the pace in the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Model feature. Benton, looking for this first track win, led the first four laps until Jeremy Shaffer replaced him at the helm. Shaffer then left the field in his wake to score his second feature win of the season. The victory earned him an $800 pay. Benton kept the runnerup spot followed by Dave Blazavich, Brad McGinnis, Mike Ott, Corey Neal, Robert Cossell, Jon Lee, Joe Moyer and John Eckenrod. Heats went to Robert Cossell and Shaffer.
Nate Smith led the opening laps of the RD Shaffer Well Services Street Stock feature. Smith was hoping to make it four in a row, but invader Chris Schneider had other plans. Schneider snagged the lead from Smith on lap six to go on for the win. Smith finished second ahead of Ray Hickok, Jr., Noah Brunell with a crate engine), Josh Frantz, Devin Weyant, Bill Phillips, Brett Bingaman, Brian Shaw and Ray Reynolds. Hickok and Schneider were heat winners.
Brad Benton shot into the lead at the start of the AMSOIL Pure Stock feature. Benton led the first ten laps before a red flag came out. Jeff Shaffer, Jr. took a nasty roll on the back straight but climbed out of the car under his own power. On the restart sixth starting Kyle Smith, Jr. was able to make the pass and collect his fourth win so far this season. Amber Mills came home second followed by Benton, Shane Nihart and Rick Wicker. Filling out the top ten were John Hayes, Brian Savino, Mike Benton, Tyler Wagner and JT Baird. Mills and Shaffer won the heats.
Chris Anderson made his first appearance at Dog Hollow memorable. Anderson over took leader Jack Theys on lap three to win the 12-lap DM Fabrication & Welding Services FWD 4 Cylinder A-Main. Theys was second over Zack Wissinger, John Costa, Tom Peters, Chuck Dizzle, Brady Miller, Dylan Young, Mike Potter and Cody Young. Wissinger and Mike Phillipson won the heats.
In the 100 lap enduro race Jimmy Neiman was the winner.
