You can buy a helmet mount for your raceciever and speakers for inside the helmet.

The problem with the setup I read online is the speakers are not loud enough for dirt track racing.

I saw small push in hearing aids on the net for under $100.  To eliminate the wires has anyone tried using hearing aids with helmet speakers?

I would think the hearing aids would multiply all sounds

elevating the noise of the engines during race condition probably would not be a good thing

Drivers use ear plugs to decrease the risk of hearing loss, and you suggest sound amplification in order to eliminate wires?  At least they'll have a use for the hearing aids when they hang up the helmet.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Thank you for the replies.  I think I figured out another way to do it.

I tried some helmet speakers in my kids helmets this past year that we purchased on Amazon----they did not work very well at all but they were cheap and you get what you pay for

my kids race miniwedges (go carts with a roll cage) and a helmet speaker system would really help me out being I would have one less thing to plug in and keep track of----

I investigated the concept at PRI and hooked up with a guy that professionally installs quality helmet speakers

his name is Steve Thomas and his email is steve@stevethomasracing.com  he came recommended by the people from Bell Helmets

I am sure its not cheap but this guy is the real deal.

I feel confident his system will work for my class of racing as the noise level is probably 10% of what it is in a big car ---not sure about how it would work for full size cars with much louder conditions

Brad, I sent you a message with url's to sites I researched yesterday.  I can stop by if you want to bs about headsets.

Edit:  I just tried the url's I sent you and only two worked.  But there two good ones to give you the idea I have to solve the hear the track problem and still make it easy for the driver.

edit:  I'd be happy to talk you into buying and trying something, see how it works and then figure out something better and cheaper for myself. :)

Simpson installs earmuffs in there helmets they are around 100-125$ can't remember. I had them installed in my new helmet but haven't used it yet. Dollankski told me not to use full volume on your raciever cause it will hurt your ears it so loud. Some drivers use these at full volume and still wear regular ear plugs to calm it down.

Paul,

I have already started the process with Steve Thomas but I am always interested in your thoughts---swing by anytime.

tnt6race,

I think we are on the same page with quality speakers---the stuff I got on the internet was under $20 bucks---but I think the real deal will be a tick over a $100

worth every penny to an old fat guy trying to get 2 kids belted in and all the other equipment on in the hot sun---LOL
