I recently bought a restored 30x90 Vintage Sprint Car from the Central PA Area.  I was told was build by Larry Woods and driven from 1968-1972 by "Clate and Spencer Husted".  I plan on taking the car to several sprint car events and showing fans a piece of sprint car history and allowing them to see where Wing Sprint Cars started from.  Any info I can get on the car builder, the drivers, the people that restored it and even pictures will be Greatly Appreciated.  Thank You for your help and time.

I'd guess that you are correct.  Larry Woods' cars were always number 30.  Larry has passed away.  Clate also passed last year.  Spencer is still around, and may be able to help you out.  He'd probably like to chat about racing.  His number is listed as (814) 342-0829.

What used to be called 30 x 90 super-Modifieds.  The coupes morphed into these home built cars and then into full blown Sprint Cars.

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!!!

I called Spencer and found some new info. The original owner was Don Kimberling. 1968-1972. Larry Woods bought it in 1973. Anyone have phone number or info for Don? I know Larry has past on, but if anyone has info to the family, that may help to.

I don't know whether Larry Jr would know anything or not.  Number (814) 342-3045.

Thanks for your help. So far I've been able to get some info on the history of the car. Still waiting to find out more. I would still love pictures if anyone has them. The car was ran as #41 and driven by Don Kimberling from 1968-1971. I've talked to Don and it was awesome to connect some truth and history of the car. The car was driven as you see in my picture as #30 by Clate and Spencer Husted. So if anyone has pics. Please let me know. Call or text me @ 864-978-4088. Thank you.

I'm no help, but very cool to bring attention to the history of local racing. Great job on the car!

Thank you! To give everyone a little about where I'm headed with this. I'm 50 years old. Grew up with some level of race car in my fathers shop all the time. My dad and uncle was drag racers, but my grandfather was a fabricator/farmer that loved dirt racing. In 1970, my dad started helping a guy with a 30x90 and from there, it grew. Everything from Sprint cars, late models, street stocks to him even helping build a Busch Car (Xfinity Series now) driven by Brad Teague. I grew up at, around and on dirt tracks. I've driven most of my life in some form of racing other than 8 years I spent in the Marine Corps. Just recently I've been noticing that it seems true roots racing is fading. Even to the point that guys are building CLONE vintage cars. The world is full of knock offs. When I found this car and heard the story that it was the real deal, I took a chance. I want race fans to be able to see where the sport we love progressed from. I have found out from reliable sources, teo of the drivers, the original owner and family members, that this car is 95% restored to it's true original state. It's important to me to keep the truth of the car and its history alive.
