I was wondering if any of you diehard dirt track fans (which I am) have ever seen the winged ISMA or MSA Supermodifieds race anywhere?...These cars are so quick and scary to watch at times...I love watching them even if it's a follow the leader race...They're a breed of their own!
I saw them at Motordrome a few years ago, pretty cool that the cars getting lapped were avg over 100mph. It was a 50 lapper with no cautions over in like 10 minutes, def a must see class if u get a chance.

I always wondered what the stands at Indy and the drivers competing would have looked like with a similar type of car at the Indy 500 ? How many sprint car guys would have jumped at a chance like that ? Wishful thinking, Hell ya. But personally, I always wanted to check Indy off my list. Never going to happen. I'd like to go to the on grounds museum. The race, they could give me a ticket and I wouldn't go. If a guy like Jack Hewitt or many other, American drivers, that deserved that chance would have gotten to kiss the bricks Indy racing would be thriving. JMO.
As for the super mods. WOW, is all you can say. Been to Oswego and J-Town. Midgets on a 1/4 mile asphalt is also a great show, they get lost on the 1/2 mile tracks.

First time I ever saw 'em was a at a freshly paved Flemington. The track record on dirt was 16.6, set by a 410 sprinter. The DIRT/Asphalt modifieds were going that fast. ISMA supers come out for their feature in a very light misting rain and turn 14.5s. Those dudes are batsh*t crazy.

There was a match race between the two top MSA supers and the two top winged sprints at Mansfield. The top MSA super was toad compared to the lighter winged 410 sprint. At the end of the race the winged sprint was off hiding around turn one, when the MSA super was coming around turn 4.
Absolutely no comparison on acceleration, the lighter winged sprint left the fastest MSA super like it was standing still. I got to see another race there with the same sprint racing against them under MSA weight and it was no better then the MSA cars. Unless it's a long track, winged 410 sprints at their weight should beat MSA supers at their weight. The sprint at Mansfield was scary fast, the MSA's after watching the sprints were only so so.

Have seen them at Oswego, Lorain, and many times at Sandusky. Absolutely love watching them there. Missed them at Midvale though.
Also, late 1980's maybe, a few supers would race with the sprint cars on the mile at Syracuse.

Gotta agree that with 410 sprint cars being lighter they have the advantage but on a track smaller than a 1/2 they would be pretty equal....There was a match race between the two top MSA supers and the two top winged sprints at Mansfield. They helped fill out the fields with the sprinters all the way into the early 90s. Ain't many 410's in central NY. A few years around then, the supers also had their own race during SDW.

That's like Jennerstown...The supers there on asphalt beat the 410s when it was dirt by about a second...First time I ever saw 'em was a at a freshly paved Flemington. The track record on dirt was 16.6, set by a 410 sprinter. The DIRT/Asphalt modifieds were going that fast. ISMA supers come out for their feature in a very light misting rain and turn 14.5s. I've seen the supers at Jennerstown, Motordrome, Sandusky, and Oswego, with my favorite being Oswego. I caught the winged super show at Motordrome a few years back, and the winner came from the 12th starting spot, I believe. Will definitely be at Jennerstown in June. Watching those cars on a big track is about as thrilling as racing gets.

Like I said I am a dirt track fan mostly and I don't like follow the leader races in general but watching supers follow each other around a track is ok...It's just the speed, the way they have those machines are under control at all times, their corner speed and it just goes on !!... For all you people out there that never seen a supermodified race and have a free day go watch one somewhere...I don't think you'll be disappointed...Check out the ISMA Show at Jennerstown July 15th !I've seen the supers at Jennerstown, Motordrome, Sandusky, and Oswego, with my favorite being Oswego. What does a Super Mod weigh compared to a dirt Sprint car?

Super Mods weight 1,850lbs.. A Dirt 410 Sprint weights 1,400 lbs,, The Supers are bad a## fast, but IMO the Dirt Sprints are way more fun to watch.

I never made it to Syracuse, would of liked to though although it was a follow the leader freight train race... Would of liked to have went for just the speeds...I seen pictures of Van May's sprint car when he flipped at Syracuse and when it was done he was sitting in the cockpit that was ripped right off the rest of the car...Have seen them at Oswego, Lorain, and many times at Sandusky. Absolutely love watching them there. Missed them at Midvale though.
