Sprint car racing with the huge gains and popularity made by the BOSS wingless series and then Allstars, WoO and some really good special winged dirt shows like Mansfield and Port Royal and including traveling IMSA Supermodifides and a Super Dirt big block show, then throw in PA speedweek and it now seems like you can pretty much go watch special shows every day of the week.

I'd like to see it back to local shows three days a week with sprints at Lernerville Friday, Saturday at Sharon and Sunday at either Mercer or i'd do Mansfield or TriCity on Sunday if it was an every week thing.

Yes I realize Mercer is not likely to go to Sunday racing but I think it sure would be good for fans and racers.

Too many specials just become regular shows.  Specials used to be $5000 or more for Sprints and Late Models.  Not so much now...

An update to my first post in this thread.

There ain't no way I'd want or expect Mercer to go to Sunday racing even with sprints, unless Sharon dumped a class or two and brought back sprints on Saturday.

I don't think there's enough hard core fans left to support Mercer unless they run on Sunday, with the Sharon track and it's better physicality so close.  No matter what great show Mercer offers, their stands, wind direction, general filth compared to Sharon, etc., ain't going to draw fans away from the 'niceness' of Sharon.  I like Mercer I'm a Mercer fan if a name has to be put on it and I don't go to Sharon because I can't handle their extended half time, but it is a much nicer place to go just as a nice place, compared to Mercer.

Not to mention most guys can't afford to race 3 nights a week every week anymore.

Weekly shows are overrated, the cost per lap is the same as a extra money show. The specials are just correct purses for the classes. A race like ULMS being 3k to win and $300 to start is about the right size for a middle of the road LM team to run and stay alive. The downfall of these extra money races is the pit passes seem to be reaching to the $40 range, when it get that high we tell guys to stay home or if they are paying their pass the don't come.

The cost to run LM's now has shot up drastically over the past few years and they're still running for the same purses. It's like stock cars running $15,000-$20,000 motors to race for $350. Guys piling money into their programs and they're still racing for purses straigh outta 2007. Penn ohio has been great for them though and Sharons pay for stocks is a bit absurd but they're now starting to have some bigger races to fit the cost a little. I'm not sure what local point funds are but its probably not enough to offset guys from skipping a weekly track to run specials multiple times. I have no problem with the special races because in the current landscape guys need all of them for their accounts and they usually put on a good show. I could maybe see that he amount of shows can water it down for fans and it may lose its luster but the stands are usually still pretty gull so.

The cost to live has gone up drastically the last 5 years. Has your paycheck gone up at the same rate??

The costs to run a race track has gone up drastically too. They need to make money to keep operating don't they?

Racing is an expensive privilege and absolutely no one is twisting their arms and forcing them to spend that money or mortgage their homes to race.

The fact is the ones that have the money will spend whatever it takes, others that don't have the money will still spend whatever it takes even if they go neck deep in debt, and the smart ones will do with what they have and go out and have fun.

Never to many specials. Regular nights tough to take anymore. To many watered down, or crate classes.

I'll take regular shows anyday,
but certainly don't mind occasional specials.

Not many guys commit to running weekly (for points) because there's no incentive anymore. Most tracks (and I know there are a couple exceptions) only have 2 or 3 cars per class that make the full season without missing a race. It just makes more sense financially to pick and choose better paying races rather than run weekly shows if you aren't going to run for points somewhere anyway. That mindset created a higher demand for special races. There's plenty to debate about whether that's good or bad for the sport in the long run.
