Rew, PA, August 13, 2017: ”The First Annual Battle at the Bullring” at Bradford Speedway attracted 17 of the best Super Late Models in the area for a 40-lap, $3000 to win contest. Boom Briggs set fast time in time trials and was awarded a case of oil donated by Rod's Trophies of Eldred, PA. After the field was set for the feature through three heats won by Chub Frank, Boom Briggs, and Mike Wonderling, Eck and Brady Wonderling brought the field to green. The tiny bullring, known for non-stop action, was packed with fans, who got the action they expected.
Wonderling shot out to the lead with Boom Briggs second but Andy Michael spun in turn one, necessitating a complete restart. This time it was Eck leading the way until turn four of lap one when Wonderling got by. Eck fought back and had a narrow lead at two laps then stretched it out. On lap five Briggs got next to Wonderling but Wonderling pulled back out to second a lap later. On lap nine Briggs finally got by for second as Eck was catching the rear of the field. At halfway Eck had a two length lead over Briggs with Wonderling third, Charlie Powell fourth, and Chub Frank fifth. On lap 22 Briggs finally got run and took over the front spot. Yellow flew at lap 25 when Powell got sideways in turn one, collecting Chub Frank and Breyton Santee. Under the caution Wonderling headed pitside. Briggs opened a lead over Eck when green flew with Powell third, Damian Bidwell fourth, and Greg Oakes fifth. Briggs went on to the win over Eck and Powell. In the final laps Oakes got by Bidwell for fourth.
Jake Mascho grabbed the early lead in the twenty lap Rod's Trophies of Eldred Pure Stock finale from the pole position. The caution flag flew at two laps when William Bigley spun. Before a lap could be complete after green six racers, including Bruno Mowrey, Lucas Cornelius , Dustin Bowen, William Bigley, Billy Deming, and Matt Ford piled up in turn four. Mascho again led after green with Dennis Harrison second and Barry Burritt third. Frank Neamon and Matt Putt got together on turn four at lap seven for the next yellow. At eight laps Harrison was alongside Mascho and was the leader a lap later. Harrison then stretched his lead over Mascho and Mike Torrence but yellow again flew at twelve when Roy Gehrhardt spun in turn two. Dave Wilson spun in turn three and was collected by Lucas Cornelius. Wilson was sent to the pit for his part in the incident. Mike Parmenter challenged Barry Burritt over the next few laps after green for third gaining the spot at the white flag, then spinning in turn one. Yellow and checkers were shown at that time with Harrison getting the win over Mascho, Burritt, Torrence, and Geheart.
The Jim Byerly Memorial for the Little Power Shop RUSH Late Models was paced by Andy Michael and Breyton Santee on the front row with heat winners Wyatt Scott and Brad Mesler in row two. Jeremy Wonderling spun in turn three on lap one with Erin Peters, Nate Earle, John Haggerty, and Josh Ayers eventually involved. Michael again led with Mesler coming to second. At lap five Scott used the outside line to come from fourth to second on turn one. At halfway Michael had a two length advantage over Scott. Coming to the stripe at nineteen Michael clipped the front straight wall and Scott was able to capitalize and gain the lead. As the white flag flew Scott Lebarron got into the back straight wall and yellow flew. Scott, Mesler, and Scott Gurdak brought the race to green and finished in that order. Besides the $800 winner’s purse and tools, Scott also collected an extra $250 for leading the nineteenth lap, the number on Byerly’s racers.
The night-capper was the Tasta Pizza of Bradford and Limestone Mini Stocks, brought to green by Holden Farr and Andy Proper. Proper took the immediate lead with Jessie Tarr alongside after two laps. Proper had sole possession of the lead at four. At halfway Proper had a half-straight lead and was in lapped traffic. At eleven complete Travis Babcock rode the front wall and yellow was shown. Proper again showed the way with Tarr managing to get by at lap thirteen. On lap fourteen Proper suddenly turned into the outside wall in turn four. With the white flag flying Anthony Schoonover drove into the turn two wall, totally knocking out a section of the barrier. Tarr was awarded the win over Matt Mowrey, Eric Canfield, Ryan Burke, and Proper.
