I know that in recent years late model car counts at tracks have been on the decline but I think at the bigger tracks are more of a problem and I think alot of it is due to guys not wanting to wind those $50,000 engines out because of the tremendous strain on them week after week unless you're a big time driver that has a big time owner...Just on Sunday Selinsgrove only had about 25 super lates for the WoO Show and just two weekends ago Bedford only had 18 cars $5,000 to win...Then the other week when they had their $8,100 to win and only drew 25 cars....I see this more and more...I can remember when these big tracks would draw 40 cars easy for $5,000 to win...Unfortuantly these days are long gone...If there's a $6,000 to win at a 1/2 or 5/8 mile track and say 30 mile up the road a 1/4 or 3/8 mile track is paying the same to win and same purse I would bet in this day and age the smaller speedplant would draw more cars because they don't have the wear and tear on their cars and that they can actually have fun out their racing with multi-grooves...It's more fun for the fans and car owners and drivers alike....Hagerstown still gets close to full fields for regular shows but I know there if the track's hard and slick it's over at the start...I've been to smaller tracks with a slick surface and have still seen great racing action and the cars aren't getting beat to death...I've watched late models on Williams Grove a few times in my life and they scream on that track and are badass fast but very rarely much passing...That place has to be hard on engines with those long straightaways !...I haven't been to PPMS recently but what I hear the racing is pretty competitive even with a dozen cars in a feature so I would say they are one of the exceptions...I know our economy has alot to do with car counts so and I truly believe alot of even some of the high dollar teams don't want to run at the big racing joints as much either....I know that even alot of regular shows at the smaller tracks don't get full field of limited lates or super lates but but I'm betting for an invitational race they will draw more cars 7 out of 10 times IMO...
