With Mercer closed, who opens first this year and when? Getting the bug already.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Oh no, you are one of the better resources for that.

If you are willing to stretch that into central pa, port royal usually opens when theres still snow on the ground in western pa. Ive gone there to get my early season itch taken care of.

Think Lincoln always opens before the Port!!  Although some tracks no doubt have their schedule on their website, not a single one has sent such out to the media so far in the way of a press release.   Still too early for that, probably after Florida racing is all over!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL!!

If your going to go east. Lincoln and the Grove. BOTH. have plowed snow of the racing surface. I used to always go when living north. Great racing. Eddie Lynch jr. had 1 of the races. He was beating them all by a large margine, there was a hole devolping out of 4 in the center of the track. Lap after lap it was getting worse. Finally it got him, he kept going high to get around it and the wall finally pulled him in for a hug. Junked it right in front of me. You talk about darts, Sr. was giving Jr looks that i thought was going to break out into a all out bar fight.

Williams Grove doesn't start as early as they used to. They know open Mid-March as they cut the Sunday afternoon stuff from early  in the year. Lincoln will give it a go the last weekend of Feb. Hagerstown starts last weekend in March & Winchester the week before.

Northeast Icebreaker, February 24, Lincoln Speedway.  Program starts at 2PM and consists of 410 winged sprints only.

www.lincolnspeedway.com

The last time I saw this program, it was done in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

I have seen them run features in a blizzard.  I have seen them get a program in with temps in the 30s and gale force winds, snow piled up in the infield and parking lot, and groundwater rushing through the front stretch wall across the front stretch.  All without starting 1 minute past the advertised start time.  Grandstands are always packed because everyone knows that Lincoln will run the program if at all possible.

So many track operators need to spend $14 on February 24 and get a cheap lesson in how it is done.

Darwins, I have been there thru some of those conditions. Your right, some should go see how to run a track and treat the paying customer.

That's correct Walt....Lincoln starts the 3rd Saturday in February....Only thing about the first 3 or 4 races there they only run the 410 Sprint cars and a 3+ hour one way trip is too far for only one division running plus it's day time racing.

Tri-city schedule just out!!...................The Saturday April 7 race will feature Late Models, RUSH Late Models, E-Mods and Open Stock Cars.  The rest of their five shows will be on Sundays.  With Mercer not likely to open and Lernerville opening later than they did in years past, this may be the very first race in western PA this year!!

GOOD RACING TO ALL

Scared me for a minute Walt, I thought Lernerville was opening even later than they have in the past few years. I really don't like that they don't even try to open until after mid-April now, and I've been counting on Mercer for the early season the past few years.

Good to see them open early. I"m just grateful for the racing we do have. As for Mercer I"m sorry it is not racing this year, it was a fun track to race on and could be a real challenge at times.

I was wondering what happened to Tri city's schedule? It seems a little light as far as no Apple fest and no All Star race. I hope that another track is not going to go dark again. I will attend most all of the shows but I am worried. I felt they could capitalize on the closure of Mercer with some more events.

With it looking like no racing at McKean County this year, it would be an opportunity for Tri-City, to pick up the July 8th, All Star scheduled show.

The All Stars are over at Sharon, for the Lou Blaney Memorial on the 7th. You would think there should be a good showing of sprints if it was scheduled.
