Bob Wearing, Jr. was pretty much a "helmet bag" driver, almost always driving for someone else.   With the high cost of racing today, guys who own a top level race car and hire someone else to drive it are getting as scarce as hen's teeth!!  I don't know for sure on Wearing, but I think he just ran out of available rides. That may have happened to others here, but I think most on the list probably just ran out of money and had to quit.  A major problem today, especially in the Late Models!!

GOOD RACING!!!

Walt

If Wearing would want to get back in his old modified, it is in my barn. Mostly there, I had some health problems and doubt I'll ever get it together.

The old saying is how do you make a small fortune in racing? Start with a large one, things change drivers give it up,get older, perhaps wiser, health, the list goes on and on,leave them be.

Walt, Bobby actually bought his last ride as part of the deal to drive it. I read that in an interview with him somewhere. I was surprised that he put that much effort into owning his own car, since he had spent so many years just wanting to drive, much like Bob Sr..

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Last time I talked to #27 Jeff Jones he was looking into drag racing. I saw #7 Herm Bertolini at a swap not long ago. He said he still had his car.

Is that still the car he bought from Rob Kosecki?
