There were only 15 Late Models for the Frank Choura Memorial Race, but no shortage of talent.  Jared Miley (10) took off from his pole position, and won convincingly over Michael Norris (72), Alex Ferree (4), Mike Pegher Jr, (1C), and Matt Lux (111).  In the Big Block Mods it was Rex King Jr. (165) over Jim Weller (31), Dave Murdick (61), Garrett Krummert (29), and Jeremiah Shingledecker (37).  Taking his first ever Lernerville Sprint win was Cale Conley (7K) ahead of Carl Bowser (98), Brandon Matus (13), George Hobaugh Jr. (4), and A.J. Flick (2).  In the Sportsman feature it was Tyler Dietz (27) over Noah Brunnell (31), Corey McPherson (c33), Bob Egley (30), and Ryan Moyer (13X).

 

In the pits tonight there were 15 Late Models, 27 Sprint Cars, 23 Big Block Modifieds, and 19 Sportsman Cars.

Heat race winners tonight were Alex Ferree and Jared Miley in the Late Models, Rex King Jr. and Garrett Krummert in the Big Block Mods, Carl Bowser, Brandon Spithaler, and Brent Matus in the Sprints, and Ryan Moyer and Tyler Deitz in the Sportsman Division.  The Sprint B-Main was won by Joe Trenca, besting Jared Zimbardi, Davey Jones, Michael Bauer, and Bill Kiley.

I thought the pro stock race was the best race of the night.  If you can get past that they're crates the race was awesome!!  Winner came from 5th row.  Won at the line while tearing right side of his car off vs last years champ and last years rookie of the year.  Second heartbreak in a row for Noah Brunnell(31).  Kid is gonna get a win this year.

As a spectator, it wasn't too dusty to see the races, but it was dustier than usual.

Mixed bag there. Good racing from the crates, and some good racing in the pack in the other divisions too. The sprints were almost idling around.

 

I'm guessing they sealed the track in case of early rain. If they were right they would have been heroes for running at all. Definitely made for a racy track. I like it more racy than fast, myself. Not sure the balance between the two was quite right though. The funny thing is that I sit near people who love a heavier, fast track.

I don't count Corey McPherson or Joey Zambodi passing Dale Tuche as a real pass. As I've said, I'll watch lawn tractors if the racing is good.

It's OK to like a crate race if it's good Jim.   Come on over to the DARK SIDE.  As a race fan we just want good racing,  but L'ville could still use a low cost open motor division,  don't you think??  I hope the 4cyl are successful.   But crates are here to stay

Not to sound like a broken record, but if it was about the racing/cost they could run open stocks and Rush series crates together. Rush would only score the Rush cars for their points. 

 

I agree with hoping for success for the 4cyl, but keep in mind that with the divisions running those nights Rush will take credit for that too, if it's successful, and blame the 4cyl and quads if it fails. 

 

And yes, for me it's about the racing.

Interesting comment being Vicky at Mercer in the 2000+ era ran 410 and 360 sprints together, scored separately for points and points fund. 

 

Being Vicky does have the history of running classes together scored separately,  I would think she might be open at least in the stock class maybe depending on if there were enough RUSH entries to pull and score her RUSH cars per how they do against each other.

 

It would open up RUSH stocks say if 10 or more signed into the pits weather they make the feature or not, to be able to accumulate RUSH points in addition to what ever they make or run for with the open stocks.  I think it would be a win win for those who have RUSH stocks and might even enhance sales for RUSH being it would open up places to gain RUSH points.

 

Vicky, you ran 410's and 360's together at Mercer.  All in all was it a good thing for the track?  I know it sure helped out with sprint car counts.

I see your point.

 

My thought process was not about pro stocks having to do anything to run with crate stocks.  I was thinking of how RUSH crate stocks might get RUSH points for running with the pro stocks if they show up with a large enough car count.  I was thinking it would raise over all stock car counts and offer the RUSH involved drivers a chance for RUSH points.

 

My thoughts most always go towards being able to 'include' more cars and racers into a class then 'exclude'.  Rush excludes for the sake of being able to sell to racers with exclusivity.  I guess the idea of their stock cars being able to race more places is out of order.

You wrote Lernerville 'was'.  Sure they did initially if I'm remembering correctly and the weight break given to the Crate stocks gave the crates an advantage over the other stocks. 

 

If you like you can search on here way back then and you will find a correct explanation by me about why the weight break given to the the crates was unfair for the being phased out stocks.  I feel giving the advantage to the now mixed in crates was intentional.   It was done knowing it would give them and advantage and make the idea look good to fans.  The fans saw the crates with an advantage over the stocks and it created interest which was I'm sure what sought to ease any fan pain of loosing what they already enjoyed.  I'd bet the pushed out stock racers also saw the advantage being given to the new crate class.

 

But that's water over the damn now unless Lernerville owners see it is hurting them.  I suspect for the owners it's now not worth the effort to possibly make the stock class better and they will continue with it as it is.   yada yada yada and it was certainly just incoherent bull I presented.  But this is our local fan discussion site and I do very much now need this site and what I write for therapy and something to do.

I mostly agree with you here, but even with the weight disadvantage the open cars were competitive with the crates. If it were really about costs they could just put them on stock tires, and let them run whatever they can stuff under or even over the hood.

yeah thats when rush was trying to get there foot in the door. before taking the class over.
