Old Bradford Speedway Kicks Off Season with Rush Non-Wing Sprints and Billy Peterson’s Final Ride
This past Sunday Old Bradford Speedway kicked off their fourth season and the night did not disappoint. The Rush Non-Wing Sprints made their first ever appearance at Old Bradford Speedway and after almost flipping in his heat Chad Ruhlman would pick up the feature win. In the Close Racing Supply Pro Mods Billy Peterson made his final ride in both the heat and feature with Dennis Lunger picking up the win. Other winners on the night were Dennis Harrison (Donovan Towing Pure Stocks), Codie Baker (Tasta Pizza of Bradford and Limestone Mini Stocks) and Dusty Skinner (Derrick City Diner Kids Class Mini Stocks).
In their first ever appearance at Old Bradford Speedway the Rush Non-Wing Sprints were led to the green flag by Chad Ruhlman and Arnie Kent. Ruhlman would jump to the early lead and hold onto it through multiple cautions to pick up then win in his first ever Non-Wing Sprint car race. Ruhlman was followed across the line by sixth place starting Gale Rush Jr., followed by Arnie Kent, Mike Lutz, and Joe McEwen rounding out the top 5. Gale Ruth Jr. and Mike Lutz picked up the heat wins.
When the Close Racing Supply Pro Mods took to the track for the feature the crowds cheers could be heard all the way through the pits as Billy Peterson was taking his final ride after fielding a car for the last 40 years. At the end of the season Peterson will step away from racing and will be greatly missed by the racing community. The front row was full of family with Jeremy Wonderling and Billy Deming leading the field to the green flag. Wonderling would jump out to the early lead followed by Dennis Lunger and Chad Carlson. At lap seven Lunger and Carlson would swap spots and the top three would remain the same unlit lap 18. While trying to navigate lap traffic Wonderling and Carlson would spin giving the lead to Lunger. At the checkers it was Lunger picking up the win followed by Nate Hartzell, Deming, Wonderling and Carlson rounding out the top 5. Wonderling and Carlson picked up heat wins earlier in the night.
The Donovan Towing Pure Stocks were lead onto the track by Barry Burritt and Dennis Harrison. By the end of the race Harrison and Roy Gearhart were the only two on the lead lap with Harrison picking up the win. Following Gearhart across the line was Ken Shelley, Larry Mitchell Jr., and Frank Neaman rounding out the top 5. Gearhart and Burritt picked up the heat wins.
The Tasta Pizza Bradford and Limestone Mini Stocks were lead to the green flag by Clinton Williams and Nick Brown with Brown jumping out to the early lead. On a restart on lap 5 Brown, Josh Torrence and Andy Proper were all in a heated battle for the lead. The next lap going into turn two Torrence’s tire came off bring out the caution. After the next restart Proper would take the lead and hold onto it until he broke going into turn 3 on lap 15 and giving the lead to Codie Baker. After the restart Baker would go onto to pick up the win followed by Matt Mowery, Brown, Brandon Buchanan and Clinton Williams rounding out the top 5. Jessie Tarr, Proper, Eric Canfield, and Joshua Oles all picked up heat wins.
In the Derrick City Diner Kids Class Mini Stocks Damyon Clark and Tierney White lead the field to the green flag with White jumping out to the early lead. She would hold onto the lead until lap 10 when Dusty Skinner would pass her for the lead and the win. White would finish second followed by Josh Isaman, Clark and Jared Parris.
Old Bradford Speedway is taking off the Memorial Day Weekend and will be back in action Sunday June 3rd. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend.
