Sarver, PA (June 21, 2018) Chris Madden etched his name into the record books as a winner of a Firecracker 100 Preliminary night, and he may not be done for the weekend if tonight's performance is any indication. The Gaffney, SC native started on the second row and proceeded to chase down a fast running Mike Marlar who looked very strong in both time trials and in his heat.  The two battled nearly door to door for the better part of the opening laps until Madden slipped under the front runner on lap 12 for the lead.

Once out front, the job became no easier for the current World of Outlaw Craftsman Late Model Points Leader as an oncoming Brandon Sheppard began his own pursuit of the leader after he made his way around Marlar for the second spot.  Madden faced one restart the rest of the way as former multi-time track champion Alex Ferree found himself off the top of turns three and four while running sixth with ten laps to go.

On the ensuing restart, Madden kept the field and held off a final charge from Sheppard with lapped traffic coming into play in the waning laps to lock down the $6,000 victory.

Current points leader Michael Norris acquitted himself well moving from his 16th starting spot to a six place finish while semi-weekly competitor Mike Pegher Jr. turned in a solid heat performance and wound up with a redraw spot in the main event. However, he was unable to take advantage as he slowed in turn two in the early portion of the race.

Preliminary night two is scheduled to get underway on Friday night with hot laps starting at 6:50 PM followed by time trials with the racing program starting at 8:05 PM.

Why??
Teams are not going to haul hundreds of miles if the weather is iffy.
Can you blame them??

There were a lot of high profile drivers who had this on there schedule and backed out. Most due to weather. I actually think if the system to the piece of energy in southern ohio stays west they get tonight in. That's wishful thinking though I suppose.

It seems guys like Jimmy Owens and Don ONeal have it on their schedule every year initially and every year the weather is miserable at least one of the 3 days and they stay home. This year it got Davenport too.

Who wants an autograph?

The upside is it gives some of the local teams a chance for some $$$$$. Three day shows are almost always going to contend with some bad weather.

Looks like if they get tonight in as quick as they did last night, they'll probably get it in.
