Miller Returns to Victory Lane, Keen Makes First Trip as then the Rains Fell upon the Speedway With the new grandstands now in place for our Speedweek date on Tuesday, the fans took full care of them, as well as the grandstands we already had in place, to make sure that there were good places to set down and see some of the best racing the state of Ohio has to offer. Up first for the evening were the Mini-Sprints and Hershel Wills and Chris Smalley took the checkered flags in the heat races. After those were complete it was time for feature action and Rod Henning took an early lead wanted to replace last weeks bad luck with an A-Main win. Getting into the race it was Rod with a huge gap between himself and Todd Keen with the 20 of Jared Horstman moving through the field after a fuel leak shut him down during his heat race. Sixteen laps into the show the first caution fell for the 40 of Steve Bendele who stopped on the track but was able to restart and finish the race in the sixth spot. When the green came back out Rod Henning was still leading over Jared Horstman with the 40 of Todd Keen just behind in third. Two laps later Jared slowed on the track in four with I would assume the fuel problem resurfacing. Rod Henning also had trouble just before this dropping several positions but got his spot back when the yellow flew. After a few laps the 2 of Josh Yenser, who was running in the top-five, also stopped on the track putting him pitside as well. On the restart the problems were too great for Rod and Todd Keen quickly took the lead in one and stretched out a lead that took him to his first feature win this year at Waynesfield Motorsports Park. Chris Smalley was second and Devon Dobie finished the night third. “The track was good tonight”. “I want to thank Andy and Cub for giving us a great place to race and for all of the effort they put into track prep” said the fourteen year old driver. “I need to thank my sponsors Keen’s Body Shop and Keen’s Auto Sales”. The driver was particularly excited because a bet he had with his Dad will now see the car owner shave his head and mustache before next Saturday’s race. The second class of the evening belonged to the Non-Wing Sprints and it was Mike Miller, Jake Martens, Luke Hall, and Corey Smith taking the black and white flag in the heats and the B-Main victory went to Jason Shields. Right at the start of the feature saw big trouble for Todd Gnat which gave good fortune and a feature start to Bob Gehr Jr who was the first alternate. Mike Miller took the early lead putting some distance between himself and Jake Martens and Corey Smith but as the leader got into lapped traffic the lead shrunk to nothing and for a short time the 66S of Smith actually got the lead when the three split a lapped car in turn three. Fourteen laps into the feature a near melee happened when cars started to nearly spin and the 4N of Neil Shepherd jumped the left rear of another car. Caution was called to bring order to the court and the line-up was now Mike Miller leading, Corey Smith in second, and Luke Hall rounding out the top-three. One lap later the yellow came out again when the 26 of Cody White flipped in turn three while running in the top-ten. With a five lap dash to the finish no one was able to get around the 320 machine of Miller again taking his second feature win of the year over Luke Hall, Corey Smith and Neil Shepherd. “Since Andy, Mike and Cub took over this place the track is awesome every week.” This is the fastest track around with a lot of right rear and side bite.” “Track Prep is just awesome and it’s two seconds a lap faster than last year.” “I really need to thank my car owner George Kissel for giving me this car to drive and Rusty and my brother for working on it.” “Golden Opportunity Signs and Craft Co Racing Products help us out and I need to thank them as well.” Unfortunately after the Non-Wing feature the rain came and cancelled the rest of the racing action. The Truck feature will be made up next week and the Stock Car feature will be made up July 7.
