Anyone know what brought Rusty Schlenk to Lernerville Friday?  Decided to skip the Dirt Million in favor of some track time at Lernerville???  He had a good car and I thought he may have had something for Norris on that late restart.  Too bad about the flat tire.

UMP points is why he came. Most UMP other points tracks were off this weekend.

Rusty is notorious for skipping big shows to run weekly shows. Its been that way for years, it works for him financially.

I get what youre trying, but he just ran 10th at one of the biggest races ever. Kinda kills your point, dont it?

A blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then too. He was not running nearly as hard as the other guys were running. That is like having half the field dropout and Mister Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year Colton finished 12th just riding around in the back waiting for everybody else to go Pit side. I do got to give him credit for racing the whole weekend and not relying on that provisional.

I am always amazed how some rip on Colton flinner endlessly for being on the lucas tour for I believe the better part of 2 seasons. The kid lived a dream, and I say good for him. The Matus clan, Garvin and Brandon Spithaler went out and raced with the all stars for a full year ? Again, I think they did it just to do it. Did they have any chance, heck no. But they're going to have stories to tell that will last a lifetime. Western Pa has few teams that can load up and go run with the touring series anymore and be a threat to win. Those that can do not run weekly any longer. Racing has just got to the point of being you have to look at dollars being spent versus purses in return. In my eyes the guy that takes the best advantage of that is Tim Schaffer. The Rudnik team is not a high dollar operation. They pick and choose just like Miley and Ferree are doing today.

He ran every race of the Summer Nationals, one of only four drivers to do the entire hell tour.

He was referring to Rusty Schlenk running the UMP Summer Nationals, called the Hell Tour because they run 28 races in about 32 days, 17 races in Illinois, with the other 11 in  Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio.

That is the ultimate race fan's vacation. I highly recommend that all race fans sometime in their lifetime pick a week or two of the Summernantionals and go out there and check out some Illinois race tracks. FALS, Jacksonville, Macon, Tri-State (Indiana), and Fayette County are some of the best tracks in the country. It's pretty incredible being able to attend 7 different racetracks in 7 days.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.
