47 CARS COMPETE IN THE HOMAK PENN OHIO PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES EVENT AT LERNERVILLE’S AUTUMN MOTIVE FEST – ANDREW GORDON FINDS VICTORY LANE FOR HIS FOURTH PENN OHIO WIN IN 2018!

For Immediate Release

September 16, 2018 (Sandy Lake, PA) Just like one week earlier at Sharon Speedway, the Homak Penn Ohio Series had a whopping 47 cars show up to compete at Lernerville Speedway’s Autumn Motive Fest on Saturday, September 15th.  Andrew Gordon parked his Staar Trucking owned, Pizza Hut sponsored #25 Ford in victory lane for a fourth Penn Ohio Series win in 2018.  The $1,000 win brought the point battle to a 7 point deficit between current point leader, Chris Schneider #55 and Gordon.

The evening began for the 47 car field with five heat races.  Capturing heat race wins were Tim Bish 11B, Gordon, Bobby Whitling #7W, Rusty Martz #16M, and Bill Hurrelbrink #c8.  Top four finishers advanced to the 25-lap A Main, with the top two participating in a redraw for starting position.  Two last chance B Mains advanced two drivers from each race to the A Main.  Winner of the B Mains were Jason Fosnaught #73 and Kyle Couchenour #299.  The track provisional was granted to Noah Brunell #31, while the Penn Ohio provisional was Jeff Broniszewski #08.

The 26 car field for the A Main was led by Ryan Moyer #13x and 2017 Penn Ohio Point Champion, Bobby Whitling.  Third-starter, Joey Zambotti #948 quickly passed Whitling and Moyer to lead the first lap and would maintain the lead until lap 5 despite several cautions.  As the cautions flew, Gordon was making his way toward the front from the eighth-starting position.  Hurrelbrink picked up the lead from Zambotti on lap 5 but would only lead one lap before Gordon took over.  Gordon would find numerous opponents knocking at his door including Tim Bish, Hurrelbrink, and eleventh-starter Schneider for the remaining 20 laps.

Despite all of the cautions, a red on lap 22 and a lapped car or two, Gordon maintained the lead and brought home his fourth Homak Penn Ohio Series victory of the season and the $1,000 paycheck.  Schneider came home in second just .305 seconds behind Gordon.  Martz finished third after coming from the back of the pack after a pit stop on lap 6.  Moyer finished fourth over 24th-starter Chris McGuire #63.  Rounding out the top ten were 22nd-starter Couchenour, Hurrelbrink, 25th-starter Broniszewski, 21st-starter Jason Fousnaught, and Whitling.

Due to the large volume of cars, a $250 B Feature was added to the schedule for the non-qualifying Homak Penn Ohio Series drivers.  Leading the 16 car field were Luke Rutsky #22R and Leigh Wheeler #717.  Rutsky edged Wheeler for the lead on the first lap and the two battled for the position until the caution on lap 2.  Rutsky would again lead the next lap but a red halted the racing action as Trevor McCann #12M rolled in turn 4.  When racing resumed, Rustsky held off the attempts by Wheeler and then would find 11th-starter Jordan Eck #20E making his presence known on lap 5.  Tyler Dietz #27 started 8th and made his way to third on lap 6.  Eck faded back and ended up in the pits on lap 12.  Dietz took over the lead on lap 11 but Rutsky wasn’t giving up easily as he reclaimed the top spot on lap 12 and 13.  Dietz was able to use his home-track advantage and lead the last two laps to park the Charlie Neely owned #27 in victory lane for the $250 prize.  Rutsky held on to second over Brett McDonald #25M, Wheeler, and Joe Wrona #15.
