Just getting into racing and need to order some gears. was wondering what would be close for latrobe and eriez. I know alot of factors go into gearing with hp and torque numbers. just didnt wanna start throwing darts at the wall when your looking at 600 plus for a gear set. thanks for the help.

While its a crap shoot guessing on gears not knowing your rpm range. Eriez would be 620 to 700. Havent raced Latrobe since 2001 or 2002 but ran a 543 back then but motors are 200 to 250 more hp lighter rotating assemblys and turn more rpms today I would think a 567 is going to be my choice the first night there good luck.

yes just gettting into racing into racing will be first year out. i have always liked stock cars and im not a crate fan so penn ohio cars is basically your only option in the area. altho i am finding out to have a competitve car the start up cost is threw the roof. im a late model fan so i like the fact we can run late model style noses.

There are very good used stock cars available
The “ King “ ( I call him ) has won 3 PennOhio Championships and raced his old car 1/4 of last season (friends with everybody) to win his 4th !
The car is only half the equation

It is somewhat similar to Hagerstown, long straights and tighter turns than PPMS, sort of a paper clip configuration.

front straight only..used to be a little fence on the backstraight to keep people out of the cornfield,nothing that would stop a car.

size/configuration is similar to Tri City I would say.

What Gear do you two recommend for the shape of the track ?

Dirt racer  somebody told me that Penn-Ohio cars were going to stock style nose in2020 like the Learnerville. I think that's what stocks should look like at any track.

well everyone is entitled to there own .02 cents on that subject but this post is about gears.

I'd probably start with a 5.67,depends really on what rpm range you need to run. anywhere from a 5.43 to a 5.83,the straights are pretty long.

Eriez 6.20-6.50

Because you are just starting out. I'd gear it tall for 2 reasons.

  1) will help you apply the power smoother to prevent unwanted tire spin with a too loose condition, which for a Rookie will get you out of control. 

  2)  might help you from blowing up your engine from high RPMs.   power is in the heads ask your engine builder what the heads will handle, them cam it so the power is a match for the heads with a smooth power band .
