  I'm looking for some info/feedback/help on the bilstein crate shock package. Looking to help some friends out and I could use some advice. Seems like something the crate division was intended to do? Anyways, does the RUSH series still give a 25# weight break? is there extra pay for the first car with them on at a weekly sanctioned track, ect. ANY advise would be appreciated.

All of the questions you are asking can be answered on the RUSH page. As for technical questions, Jim Highland from Bilstein can answer any questions you have. I believe his contact number can be found on the Bilstien program portion of the RUSH page. Good luck!

I believe 2015 had a 5000 bucks grand prize to the highest rated Bilstein Bandit
As a team using the 135 dollar per shock package could win at the end of the season
Alan Dellinger did well in a latemodel using them and and I know Justin Lamb was close in the running to win that money but lost track if they did or not
Not sure if they are still doing anything like that

I hear the rich racers and big teams will buy 20+ of them dyno'ing each one and picking which they want, then selling the rest.  And what about those who put them on a machine to wear them out in a specific way making them work differently then those who cannot alter via use their speck shocks?

Scroll to the bottom. Penske 3900.00 and I was told guys are not spending that on shocks. LOL and LOL even more. In case you did not read the description, that price of 18 grand gets you 2 shocks. Sold in pairs.

Put Monroe matics on all 4 corners. You would no longer need that 65k wide bore ford and you'd have to have a guy that knew how to drive a car.

There letting technology take over SLM racing. There is no reason to be spending that kind of money on something that can be easily regulated.

 Fake News! They run higher end shocks, no point fund $ any longer anyway AFAIK, youll wear out your dyno before you wear out a shock running it, cmon man.

figured I'd throw out that link for the SHOCK! value..

it just shows the need for reasonable shock and suspension rules,
hopefully these rules are made to save the racer money..we all saw how IMCA went wild with mandated labeled suspension parts where they got a cut off the sale..
when you get too many fingers in the cookie jar it doesn't help anyone.

and don't even get me started on bodies..

MY Point is Who would buy 20 x 4 (or x6 on a late/crate) and dyno all them (...and wear? them IF that was what they need or possible)....Then sell or toss upwards of 80 to 120 shocks!!

TO SAVE 25-50#? pounds total weight,
Aint nobody spending time or money like that.

They are a viable and competitive, budget conscious option.

I ran them for several years, won a few races with them, and almost always finished in the top 3. I won the $5000 Bilstein Bandit deal the last year they had it, and the PPMS track championship. Unfortunately there is no contingency fund for using them anymore, but RUSH does still give a weight break for running them. I started last years season on them while my new Bilstein AS2’s were being built, and again, we didn’t finish outside the top 3 on them. They are a great shock period...not just “for the money”, it’s just a bonus that they’re inexpensive. I know Russ Matejka switched to them last year, and had his best season yet in a crate car at PPMS. Jim Hiland is a great resource if you have any questions, and feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions. I’ll tell you exactly what was on my car when I ran them. I personally think they should be a mandatory spec shock for Rush.

I will ask anyone this. Tell me a time racing was better than those years ? No mega dollar shocks. No mega dollar nothing, and the racing was great.

I rest my case. All it takes today is $$$. They busted Rumley for a simple device that held the shock in a consistent angle thru-out motion. Today's local racer doesn't have a clue were to turn. Satterlee is reportedly not running the lucas schedule this year. I wished the kid was going to get some wins under his belt. Unfortunately they cannot get the car consistent from track to track and changing conditions as the night progresses. I hope he does well locally, there's enough good paying shows that he can do well.

Toby Tobias wrote an article in 1969 talking about costs getting out of control.

I worked on big blocks from the early 80s until the early 90s. You act like racing was cheap back then. Let me clue you in. It wasnt. Were there more cars? Sure. Were they cheaper? If you take inflation into account, nope. There are lots of reasons why there arent as many tracks or cars, but money isnt as high on the list as you think. There are tons of cars at the drag strips and the numbers keep going up, and I assure you that lots of those folks are spending way more than the guys running dirt tracks.

local drag racing is all bracket racing,which is more like playing a game than actual racing.

I went to Quaker City one night back in the early 80's and watched a slant 6 4 door Dart clean house because it was "consistent"..what the hell is that?..it was over 30 years before I went back for a nostalgia Funnycar show..I went dirt racing instead.

how many drag racers run heads up like the dirt guys..not very many.
