CHRIS SCHNEIDER KICKS OFF THE HOMAK PENN OHIO SEASON WITH $2,000 WIN AT SHARON SPEEDWAY’S 2018 MAKE UP APPLE FEST RACE, PLUS AUTOMATIC QUALIFIER FOR 2019 STEEL VALLEY PRO STOCK NATS $10K!

For Immediate Release

May 13, 2019 (Sandy Lake, PA) Despite the usual threatening rain, track officials at Sharon Speedway worked diligently to get the 2019 season underway on Saturday, May 11th, featuring the Penn Ohio Series 2018 make up Apple Fest non-points race from September 7th.  A total of 53 different pro stock cars competed in the event with 32 on hand at Saturday’s event to compete in last chance B Mains and the 25 lap A Main paying $2,000 to win.  At the end of the night, four-time Penn Ohio Pro Stock Point Champion, Chris Schneider, out of Lower Burrell, PA, parked his SS Chassis #55 in victory lane for the $2,000 pay day and automatically qualified for the Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals event on June 14th and 15th.

Saturday’s make up event kicked off with two B Mains featuring 8 cars in each and 4 advancing to the A.  Winners of the B Mains were Curtis J. Bish #29 and Jackson Humanic #17.  Provisionals were granted to Steve D’Apolito #84 for Sharon Speedway and Terry Wheeler #2W for Penn Ohio.

As a result of a pill redraw for the top 10, Joey Zambotti #948 would lead the 25-car field to the green in the 25-lap A Main with Rob Shook #64 by his side.  Shook took a quick lead over Zambotti with Schneider in third on the opening lap.  Schneider would capture the runner up spot on lap 2 over Zambotti.  Lap 3 found fifth-starter Andrew Gordon and sixth-starter Rusty Martz battling Zambotti for third with Martz securing the position, while Gordon settled into the fourth spot.  Shook maintained the lead until Schneider made the winning pass on lap 10.

Lapped traffic became a factor as the 25-lap race was caution free from green to checker.  Schneider was uncontested as the battle for third and fourth heated up between Martz and Gordon on laps 15-18 with Gordon taking over third on lap 18.  On a mission and dealing with lapped traffic, Gordon would chase down Shook to battle for the 2nd spot and was able to secure it on lap 21.  With only four laps left and a sizable distance from the leader, Gordon would settle for the runner up spot, 4.134 seconds behind Schneider.  Shook finished third over Martz and Jason Fosnaught #73.  Completing the top 10 were Mike Miller #T6, Chris McGuire #63, Humanic #17, Bobby Whitling #7W, and Zambotti #948.
