It's really pretty simple, they have a much better chance of winning at Thunder Mountain vs. Lernerville. Doug Eck has been a regular at Thunder Mountain for a few years now, Matt Lux lives much closer to Thunder Mountain, and Michael Lake usually has lotsa trouble at Lernerville when he doesn't start on the front row.

The stock car classes were disappointing. For the money they pay weekly, I just dont see why youd miss running there when you can. The semi-lates and fwd classes had strong fields and put on a great show.

The track surface was absolutely beautiful last night (and usually is). Very racey surface from top to bottom. Smooth but very fast. The place doesnt have the prestige (by some peoples standards) of lernerville, but to think guys go there to cherrypick is a bit of a stretch. The past year or so Thunder Mountain has been drawing some pretty tough cars, and more every week. They pay well and put on a nice show. I like lernerville too, but how many supers would you pick to have a shot at winning there each week? Norris is the obvious pick, and you just get random appearances from a car or two that can beat him.

I didn't call anyone a cherry picker, a smart racer goes where he thinks he can win, nothing wrong with that. I was just stating a fact. If Michael Norris, Jared Miley, Alex Ferree, Colton Flinner, or Russ King and Mike Pegher Jr. run often at Lernerville (which they didn't do last year), it's hard for anyone else to win, period, including Matt Lux, who is an excellent racer.

So far the new dirt at Lernerville seems to be racier. There's been a bottom groove, so you don't have to do a slide job to pass every time.
My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Sounds like a Butler driver who never got over Don Martin closing his favorite track. My dad was one of those.

FanJim24, a good friend raced at Butler and still to this day talks about how Don screwed the drivers at Butler. I keep telling him man you need to get over it. LOL. Jim what was your Dads car number, I raced at North Hills in a Semi Lates.

We started in semi-lates when North Hills was running Sunday and moved to late models the year they went Thursdays. Car number 24, then 11. Austin's Bleach sponsorship.

His first name was Bill. Good friends with Dave Hartman and Jim Magill, which was interesting, because I went to the school Jim taught at. He spent all the time he could around the Irvines, Pappy Kessler, and Wearing. Lived right on Wexford Rd. We often had multiple race cars in the driveway after the races on Sundays. Got a couple good talking tos, Friday and Saturday for stuff that happened in school in the spring and early fall.

Lot of good times and fun plus made some good friends. I can only speak for myself but I think the racers should take a few pages from your Dads and our book about racing. I know I will get bashed for that comment.

Yeah, different day and age. I don't think we can ever get back to that again. He had a story about Wearing's brakes going out, and beating on our car in every corner to get slowed. Then talking about it at Marty's afterward. I don't know if it's true or not, but it could be. Or the one Sunday I think it was Danny Dunn got upside down and so high in the air that we drove under him and never got touched. They talked about it after in our kitchen. And strategy, drivers got into each other's heads.
It's why I watch AJ Flick. You can see it when he has a hard time getting around someone. If he has enough laps left, he'll follow for a lap or two, then go to work, or if he can get along side, take away the other guy's line, but not dirty, just be there.

Heard it from my dad, so 50/50 chance of it being mostly true.
