For the Pro Stocks, they need to adapt the rules to help crate motors be competitive.  Zambotti and Egley handled well but clearly didn't have the motor.  Basically adapt the rules to what Lernerville USED TO have and I think they would do quite well..

Funny I was thinking the exact same thing this weekend. Lernerville had bad car counts for various reasons, I think there were like 8 Pro Stocks at Thunder Mountain, PPMS had low counts, Knob had 8 total cars, Latrobe did well for an opening week but most divisions were around 10 cars. Sharon seems to be the only track really packing them in anymore. So yeah you have to wonder if the support is there for Western PA as a whole/if there are too many tracks around for the available cars. Its sad. Its definitely like watching something you love slowly die. The old guys like me 40-55 just arent being replaced by 18-25 year old gear heads like in the past.

If you look at kart racing 15-20 years ago the pits were full, if you go now your lucky to have a couple karts in each kids class if any at all. Parents still have a big influence on kids at a young age and they just aren't there.

Crate engines in a pro stock are a lost cause.

Latrobe, a freshly-opened track without an established car count base, should exclude possible participants because you look down your nose at crates?

If there is a good reason to not have crate-inclusive rules, it's because they don't tech.  Guys are fine with wild, wild west rules and lack of tech until someone else has a perceived advantage that they can't overcome with more money.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Nail on the head with this one.  Weight, aero, and wheel/tire rules would be easy things to implement to level the playing field and easy to tech.

The all formidable crate goddess has now divided the entry level classes. Fewer cars to go around. Look at the car count at lernerville the first 2 weeks. Guys tried it, they then realized if they did not have a fab'd chassis they were out of luck. Another car, gone. Rules and greedy people are killing local racing. Do you need rules ? You sure do. But you don't need a monopoly that feels it's the only way. So scrap what you have and go buy the fab'd chassis and your crate motor. $30,000.00 + mite get you there. In a sportsman by the way. Add another 30 to that and you can go late model racing. Hummm, I wonder what 358 racers are spending ? I bet it doesn't come close to a crate set up.

A good 358 Mason Dixon series engine will run you $10-$15000 and go 1000 to 1500 laps with proper maintenance. Cars are cars. You can pick up a 12-15 Blue/Gray Rocket, update it to 19 specs and have a $10000 competitive car. Or you can drop $40000 on a new Horn or XR1. It all goes back to how heavy is your wallet? IMHO

First off, thank you to whoever congratulated us on the win. It was great to race on a track that nobody thought would ever be open again. But when it comes to the crates, nobody is looking down their nose at them. What is trying to be said is that there are already two tracks with rules catering to the crates. If you purchased a crate to run at Lernerville, you cant expect everyone else to cater as well. It is clearly stated the Latrobe is under Penn Ohio rules, I dont see an argument from the end of the crates. And if theyre not teching I dont know why I was pulled over to the shed with the Penn/Ohio rules in the tech inspectors hand along with the second place finisher. Penn Ohio is a great universal system of rules that saved the Pro-Stock class. Even for a small, low-budget team like ourselves.

FasTrak crate late models and Penn Ohio pro stocks is a guarantee that the Rush series director is losing sleep at night. "Latrobe will never make it without me"
The current car counts prove they'll be just fine with out! Congrats to Latrobe speedway and staff. Hope to make it there this season again! Job well done
