KYLE COUCHENOUR VISITS RACEWAY 7’S VICTORY LANE IN THE HOMAK PENN OHIO PRO STOCK SERIES POWERED BY CAN-AM EVENT!
For Immediate Release
July 20, 2019 (Sandy Lake, PA) Enduring a ten-minute down pour, the blazing heat, and storms surrounding the speedway, 26 pro stock drivers battled at Raceway 7 for the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series $1,000 to-win event. Five different winners in as many races have captured a Penn Ohio Series win in 2019. Kyle Couchenour made a last lap pass to take the win over Rusty Moore #17M to park his T-Coke Motorsports sponsored #299 CRS Race Car in victory lane.
Kicking off the event, drivers competed in three heat races with Moore, Couchenour, and last week feature winner Hunter Exley picking up the heat race wins. All cars transferred to the A Main with the top three from each heat participating in a redraw for starting position.
As a result of the redraw, Billy Henry, substitute driver for Chris Withers’ #21W, and Couchenour would lead a field of 23 cars to the green in the 20-lap Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series powered by Can-Am race. Couchenour edged Henry to lead lap one and would secure the top spot over Henry, Tim Bish #11B, Pat Fielding #23, Moore, and Shaun Hooks #65 until the first caution flag waved on lap 6 for Curt Bish #00 spinning in turn 4. The restart had Couchenour and Henry side-by-side with Tim Bish #11B and Moore in row 2, Hooks and Fielding in row 3.
The pack raced hard into one and two on the start and unfortunately Henry sent the 21W spinning on the outside in turn 2 causing the 2nd caution. With the 21W at the tail on the next restart, Bish was to the outside of Couchenour, advancing Moore to third and Hooks to fourth. Again racing action was short-lived as Nick Kocuba #10 and Henry got together in turns 1 and 2 with both retiring to the pits. On the restart Couchenour commanded the lead with Bish slipping back to third as Moore took over the runner up spot. Just before the completion of lap 9 the final caution flag of the event flew for former Penn Ohio Series Point Champion, Bobby Whitling’s #7W slowing on the track due to mechanical issues.
The Veteran Moore used the restart to his advantage as he soared to the lead over Couchenour on lap 9 and would gain a substantial lead by lap 15. Hooks settled into the third spot while 18th-starter Randy Wyant #11T would battle Bish several laps before securing fourth on lap 13. Couchenour’s perseverance paid off for the young driver as he closed the gap on Moore in the last 5 laps and made his presence known on lap 18. Moore edged Couchenour on lap 19 but slid high in turn 3 coming to the checkers giving Couchenour the advantage to take the win by .333 seconds. Hooks finished third over Wyant with Bish in fifth. Jason Fosnaught #73 came from 15th to finish sixth, Fielding in seventh over Exley and Daryl Charlier #112, while Chris McGuire rounded out the top 10.
The next Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series point event will take place at Thunder Mountain on Friday, August 9th.
