Paul May takes Sprint Portion of the Night with Jon Henry taking the Modified Checkers. With hot temperatures greeting both the many fans and drivers as they got to Waynesfield Motorsports Park that then turned into hot tempers later on in the night as many drivers were disappointed with some choices by their peers. With Paul May and Byron Reed leading the field to the green flag it wouldn’t take long for the A-Main to begin too look like heat races where there were many flips as well as red and yellow flag periods. Two laps into the race Dustin Daggett and Dale Blaney got together in turn four in front of the field with everyone getting through, albeit with minor scrapes, to begin a second charge for the $5000 winner share. This would take both of those cars pitside as well as Chris Andrews who had a flat tire, and only Dustin Daggett would not return. Paul May would have the lead with Byron Reed right behind him and Brian Paulus in third. Not to long after the green came back out the 71M of Paul May shot back out into a big lead getting into lapped traffic quickly but just as that happened Chad Blonde went off of the track in one and two bringing out the caution again. With eleven laps in the books Paul May was still leading and Byron Reed and Brian Paulus in the podium positions. By turn one of the restart the cars were three wide jockeying for spots trying to get those in front of them to make a big enough mistake to capitalize on the lightening fast track. Many cars as well were repeatedly testing the cushion that was built up in four, most of time going up over and losing positions to those right behind them. Seventeen laps in the field was slowed once again when the 09 of Craig Mintz was down off of the race pace on the track eventually going back to the pits for the rest of the evening. Five laps later another red flag would come out when Brock Mays dug the right front of his car in and flipped in turn three collecting Neil Shepherd and Brian Ellenberger, who also got upside down. Paul May, Byron Reed, and Brian Paulus were still pacing the field up front. Two laps after the green was put back out Dean Jacobs completed a pass for third and Byron Reed did his own check on the cushion in four losing some space to the leader. Then the field was slowed once again when Lance Dewease stopped in turn four on lap twenty-nine putting some fluid down on the track. The order was now Paul May leading, Byron Reed in second and Dean Jacobs third. On the restart Shane Stewart got the jump on Brian Paulus to take the fourth spot and Rob Chaney then got by him as well to take fifth. With five laps to go in the forty lap feature Mark Keegan’s car slowed on the track causing another yellow to be displayed for leader Paul May giving Byron Reed and Dean Jacobs another restart to try and get by. This was the time for fireworks as Byron Reed drove to the bottom and completed a slide job for first but contact with Paul May loosened the black 5 up sending Byron towards the back half of the top-ten. Shane Stewart used this to make it up to second place behind winner Paul May, Brain Paulus made it back up to third Dean Jacobs in fourth and Greg Wilson in fifth. Completing the evening would be our very own Modified division and they were not going to be outdone for action. Taking the heat race wins were Jerry Bowersock, Bill Lewis, John Henry and Shane O Conner. Winning the B-Main was Steve Duty. With the feature set and Shane O Conner and points leader Jon Henry on the front row it with be Shane taking the early lead into one. On lap two the pace was slowed when Steve Duty, Kevin Free and Lenny Guyton got together in turn two. Shane O Conner was in the top spot with Jon Henry, Bill Lewis, Jerry Bowersock, and Brent Hole rounding out the top-five. Five laps later the show would be slowed once again when Chris Ullery stopped on the back stretch with the top-five the same as the last caution. At the half-way mark Shane O Conner was getting repeated tests from the second place car of Jon Henry with Jerry Bowersock closing in on the both of them. Just after that two-time winner Bill Lewis got loose in four dropping two spots back just as Jerry Bowersock was heating up the battle for second. The top-three had the show all to their own as fourth was way back trying to catch up, but to little avail. Then with three laps to go Shane O Conner had heavy contact with the front stretch wall giving him a flat tire and Jon Henry the lead. The 20 of Jerry Bowersock was close behind as the leaders got into lapped traffic but there was nothing he could do and Jon Henry got his first win of the year at Waynesfield Motorsports Park.
