THE HOMAK PENN OHIO PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES POWERED BY CAN-AM REVISITS ERIEZ SPEEDWAY TO FIND SHAUN HOOKS RETURNING TO VICTORY LANE FOR THE $1,000 WIN!

For Immediate Release

August 27, 2019 (Sandy Lake, PA) Back in June the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series powered by Can-Am made way to Eriez Speedway for the first of two events in the 2019 season.  Last Sunday on August 25th, the Series returned for the second event only to find the same winner in victory lane.  Shaun Hooks, out of Sandy Lake, PA, is the first repeat winner in a Series’ point race in 2019.  Hooks led all 25 laps from the outside pole position to take home the $1,000 check in his Homak, E & K Management, Ringgold Plumbing & Heating, Les Frickshun, Wrapz by Reiser sponsored #65.

Four heat races found 31 pro stock drivers battling for a top five finish to transfer to the A Main and a chance at the $1,000 prize.  Heat race winners included Rod Laskey #1R, Nick Kocuba #10, Randy Wyant #11T, and Tim Bish #11B.  One B Main gave drivers a last chance for an A Main starting spot as 4 advanced.  Terry Wheeler #2W was the B Main winner.  The Homak Penn Ohio Series granted one provisional to Josh Seippel #84S to make up a 25 car field.

The top 8 drivers from the heat races participated in a redraw to determine starting positions for the A Main.  As a result, Laskey and Hooks would lead the field to the green in the 25-lap Homak POPS powered by Can-Am event.  Hooks used the outside lane to power his Slider Race Car to the lead over Laskey as current Homak Penn Ohio point leader, Hunter Exley #23HJR made his way past Jason Fosnaught #73 for 3rd.  The first caution in the caution-plagued event would slow racing action on lap 5 for debris on the track.  Choosing the outside lane, Hooks found Laskey to his inside on the restart followed by Exley, Fosnaught, Randy Wyant #11T, and Gary Fisher #99F making up rows 2 and 3.  Two more caution flags would wave between laps 6 and 8 with Hooks maintaining the high line to keep the lead.

Laskey would slip back to 4th on lap 9 giving the runner up spot to Fosnaught with Exley in tow.  The stretch of green flag racing and Hooks sizeable lead came to a halt on lap 12 giving Fosnaught a shot at restarting to the inside of Hooks.  Unfortunately for Fosnaught a quick caution would result in a single file restart putting him nose to tail with Hooks.  Hooks commanded the lead while Fosnaught and Exley battled for second and Jason Black #5B advanced to 4th over Laskey on lap 13.  Exley would take over the runner up spot on lap 15 and began pressuring Hooks for the lead until the next caution on lap 19.

Green flag racing would resume with Exley running door-to-door with Hooks on lap 20 and 21.  Fosnaught settled into 3rd while 9th-starter Curtis Bish #29 battled Black for 4th.  The 7th caution of the event would bunch the group back up giving Exley another shot at taking the lead from Hooks.  The two would race into turn two with Exley appearing to have the edge but Hooks maintaining the lead at the flag stand.  The final yellow flag waved with two to go.  Hooks continued to hold his line on the high side to keep a half-of-a-car length advantage over Exley for the win.  Fosnaught finished in 3rd over Bish #29 followed by Chris McGuire #63.  19th starter Noah Brunell #31 made his way to 6th, Wyant took 7th, Douglas Eck #4* in 8th followed by Jeff Broniszewski #08 in 9th, and Jackson Humanic #17 rounding out the top 10.

The 2nd Annual Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals Day 2 make-up at Sharon Speedway is next on the schedule for the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series powered by Can-Am!  An open practice and “King of the Hill” race on Friday, September 6th will give drivers an opportunity to prepare to battle on Saturday, September 7th for the $10,000 grand prize.  Drivers who did not participate in Day 1 of the event on June 14th can still participate by registering and tagging the field of the set heat races.
