The 1C used mainly the inside groove and the pole position to outpace Dave Scott and Dave Hess for the win.  Race had a couple of yellow free runs that let lap traffic factor in but no-one really had anything for the leader.  Lake faded late until he broke.  Hess was probably fastest car late but ran out of laps.  around 20 cars.  TMS provisional winner Dan Angelicio did not show??  only 18 started race.  Good run for Point champ Kot.  Thought more cars should have been there.  Not much SLM action going on.  3K to win,  beautiful night,  ??????

The 23 car of John Blankenship finished in the top 5 at the world 100 !
The word COAL was again on the hood
He disappeared for several years because he is sponsored by West Virginia Coal
Just One example of the war against America that ended and started the other direction November 8 2016

Blankenship disappeared because his father went to prison, and I guess the money pit dried up.  Coal is not making a comeback, shale oil/natural gas will eventually take its place, but not for a while.

Coal is back!
30% of power plants still burn coal
Gas is definitely preferred in the USA but most of the world burns it like always
Money dried up ? Ya! Thats the point
The money is back and Blankenship is using it to go Racing
Says so right on his hood

It wasn't so much the money pit dried up, it was his dad trying to shed assets.

I guess he and his dad weren't on good terms after all that. Supposedly his dad is sponsoring the ride John is currently running as an olive branch to try and mend their relationship.

Coal is back...LMAO!!
Who are you trying to fool?
The last 8 years I've been involved in converting coal fired power plants over to gas and building new natural gas power plants all over the country.
The company I'm working for have 12 natural gas units on the books to be built around PA, Ohio, and WVa and bidding more.

That's great and I'm building a Cracker Plant but the point is that People who make a living mining coal are back in business mining coal and selling it
Exports of coal to other countries is off the charts
That's the point
Coal miners were put out of business for 8 years until 2016
Blankenship just reminded me because he disappeared in 2014 like flash said his dad shut down went to prison
And showed up again like coalminer paychecks this past week
12 units ??
Thats not enough to power half of one state
There are still thousands of coal plants working and lots and lots more over seas

The money didn't dry up because of a downturn in the coal industry.  Blankenship made billions of dollars during the 8 years Obama was president.  And no, the coal industry didn't die during that period either.  It's been in a slow decline for the last 30 years or so.  I have family in Southwest Virginia in Wise County, and along with eastern Kentucky, it's one of the coal mining hotbeds of the eastern United States.  Three mines closed there this summer.  I wouldn't be buying any coal company stocks any time soon.

I did a quick Google search and found this on Wiki.

In 2017, there were 359 coal-powered units at the electrical utilities across the US, with a total nominal capacity of 256 GW (compared to 1024 units at nominal 278 GW in 2000).

As of December 31, 2017, there were about 8,652 power plants in the United States that have operational generators with a combined nameplate electricity generation capacity of at least 1 megawatt (MW).

But I guess that it is possible that between Dec 31, 2017 and now there were at least 1641 coal powered power plants that opened up so there would be at least 2,000 which would make DL2's comment correct.
