Tim Shaffer wins at Fremont and very good run by Brandon Matus
It's the Shaffer Jacobs team per Shaffer after the race. Nice interview of Tim Shaffer after the race.
Tim Shaffer was again smooth as silk checking out on the last 8 laps after the leader for most of the race passed him back from him getting the lead with 9 to go.
But after passing Shaffer back through one and two the leader for most of the race dumped it big time hitting the wall at the entrance to turn three and on down the wall rolling it on the wall to half way into turn three. With 8 laps to go at the end Tim was almost far enough down the front stretch to run and hide out of sight before the second place car started the final front stretch.
With 8 to go red flag with "AIR" and fuel being allowed during the red it enabled Reed(5 car) to put air in his flat right front tire. I couldn't see for sure but per what I heard from the announcer the 5 car was allowed to go to the work area because of his flat tire and then allowed to return without loosing his second place spot because in the work area they decided to NOT deal with the right front tire. Funny how he both got his spot back after going to the work area(maybe he just went next to the work area and remained on the track, I couldn't see) AND it was announced the red would not be just for fuel but also for AIR. Frankly the race went pretty much wire to wire and in my opinion there was no need for either fuel or air. Seems to me what was allowed was a hustle to take care of a local favorite who was then in second place. The last 8 laps I saw no sign of the second place 5 cars right front loosing air and Tim Shaffer checked out on second place. After the restart Tim the Journeyman went from fast to smoooooth and smooother running 3 and 4 which I could see well from the pit stands as if each lap was a time trial lap.
The 33 car which rolled it down the fence into turn 3 was the fastest car on the track during most of the race but the way Tim checked out the last 8 laps was amazing. Tim and the car was on the ragged edge of being on rails through 3 and 4 and likely the same through 1 and 2.
