ALAN DELLINGER MAKES THE 9TH DIFFERENT HOMAK PENN OHIO SERIES POWERED BY CAN-AM WINNER IN THE 2019 SEASON PICKING UP SHARON SPEEDWAY’S APPLE FESTIVAL NATIONALS $2,000 VICTORY!

For Immediate Release

September 24, 2019 (Sandy Lake, PA) Stock car legend and Sharon’s all-time winningest stock car driver, Alan Dellinger became the 9th different winner to visit victory lane in a Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series event in 11 races during the 2019 season.  Driving the #7s owned by Jason Longwell, Dellinger took home the $2,000 check at Sharon Speedway’s Apple Festival Nationals on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

41 pro stock drivers kicked off the two-day event by participating in 5 heat races on Friday night.  Four drivers transferred from the heats to the A Main with the top 2 drivers participating in a redraw for starting position.  Heat race winners included Dellinger, Rusty Moore #17M, Shaun Hooks #65, Curtis J. Bish #29, and Rod Laskey #1R.

As per the usual during Apple Festival Nationals, Saturday’s portion included some rain showers which delayed racing action about 2 hours.  Track Officials and drivers worked hard to get the track back in racing condition.  Once racing got underway, two B Mains gave pro stock drivers an opportunity to race for the $2,000 prize, as two drivers advanced from each.  B Main winners included Rusty Martz #16M and Bobby Whitling #7W.  Provisionals were granted to two drivers highest in Penn Ohio Series and Sharon Speedway points not transferring through a heat or B Main – Hunter Exley #23HJR was the Penn Ohio recipient and Brian Carothers #02C was the recipient for Sharon Speedway.

As a result of the redraw, Hooks and Randy Wyant #11T would lead the 26 car field to the green in the 25-lap event.  Hooks commanded the lead on the first lap with 5th-starter Dellinger in 2nd over Wyant.  Dellinger would take over the lead from Hooks on lap 4.  Schneider began pressuring Hooks for the runner up spot on lap 6, just before the first caution flag would fly for a spinning Carothers in turn 2.  Dellinger chose the inside lane with Hooks to the outside, Schneider in tow and 8th-starter Chris McGuire in the 4th spot.  Dellinger, Hooks, and Schneider were three-wide for the lead in turns 1 and 2 but racing was quickly halted for a stopped Exley on the start.  Able to re-fire, Exley would restart at the tail of the field.  In a similar fashion, the restart found the top 3 in a battle for the lead however another yellow flag would fly for an incident between Jim Nicely #33X and Gerry Bruce #z17 in turn 2 before the completion of lap 7.

When racing resumed, Dellinger was in the lead on lap 7 over Schneider and Hooks.  Schneider passed Dellinger on lap 8 and held onto the top spot until lap 11 when Dellinger changed his line and recaptured the lead.  McGuire passed Hooks for 3rd on the same lap.  Lapped traffic became a factor for the leader on lap 16 but his consistency kept Schneider at bay.  10th-starter Noah Brunell #31 entered the top 5 on lap 17 as he passed Wyant for the position.  Two laps later Brunell advanced to 4th over Hooks and began pressuring McGuire for 3rd.  The final caution occurred on lap 21 for a smoking Laskey stopped on the front stretch with apparent mechanical issues.

Dellinger was uncontested for the lead for the remaining 4 laps as he took the checkers 0.489 ahead of the dominant Schneider.  Brunell took the 3rd spot from McGuire on lap 22 and the two would finish in 3rd and 4th.  15th-starter Andrew Gordon, substitute driver for Jeff Broniszewski, in the #08 had a strong run to finish in 5th.  Front row starters Wyant and Hooks dropped to 6th and 7th, while Moore secured 8th over 21st-starter Whitling.  Bish #29 rounded out the top 10.

With one more event on the 2019 schedule for the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series powered by Can-Am, the point battle intensifies.  Current leader, Hunter Exley #23HJR holds a 2 point lead with 958 points over Jason Fosnaught #73 (956) and 5 points over Chris McGuire #63 (953).  Jackson Humanic #17 sits in 4th with 928, Shaun Hooks #65 in 5th with 919.  Drivers will have one dropped race but the top 9 drivers will all drop.  The Series will partake in Friday’s portion of the Mercer’s Little Guy Nationals on October 4th for the final race in the 2019 season.  Fans will not want to miss a night of action packed racing and crowning of a new Homak Penn Ohio Point Champion!
