Say a prayer for Ryan Newman. That was a nasty looking crash. NASCAR really needs to do something different with this restrictor plate racing.

I don't think they have used plates for a few years..all done with injection and ECM's,but I agree they need to let the cars be able to break away from the others..they are just asking for trouble.

that was a brutal hit right in the driver side "A" pillar..then they cleared reporters from the pits and put up the black screens..it looked bad for him,I was almost scared to check the internet a couple hours later.

I always thought Ryan was a good dude and hope he pulls thru okay!

I just looked..they got rid of the plates due to cheating but went to some kind of tapered spacer system. either way its an accident waiting to happen every trip to Daytona or 'Dega.

But that is the real point of whatever restrictors they are using. The casual viewers are only there for the "big one," and NASCRAP makes sure to give them what they are watching for. Any racing that may happen to occur is incidental.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

You guys are both correct. And, the racing that is incidental is not a good representation of pure racing. It is a curious off shoot. They either need to eliminate super speedway racing altogether, or change the rules so that the cars and drivers that are efficient at drafting can separate themselves from the pack.

Let's hope RYan Newman makes a full and speedy recovery and then walks away. This crap they put out there took Dale Earnhardt and how many others that have been so dam lucky.

Today's junk is so aero dependent guys can't get away from anybody. Yesterday's cars were not as stiff and ran on rubber that was rock hard.

Keep your restrictions on the enginess. Take all the aero crap off of them and put them on tires that last 100 laps. Most of them wouldn't be able to drive them.

O but wait, naanaa they're never going to change, just ask Carl Edwards. He got tired of trying to tell them we need to do something to get these cars seperated and finally said enough is enough and walked away.

Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell get the hell out, you 2 can make a lot of money following the WoO.

I can foresee this being Ryan's career deciding incident.  He has pleaded for changes, and got nothing.  Couldn't blame him if he decides to hang up NAPcar.

You'd think if there is one guy they would listen to, it'd be Ryan Newman, a guy with a freakin' engineering degree from Purdue.

All they care about is stick and ball sports. To them racing is not a sport. So you know were their heads are at! Yep, UP THEIR BUTTS.

KDKA is the worst!!!    Pompania and his buddies never mention the sort unless their is a fatal crash!!   However, both CBS and NBC had the crash, complete with terrifying photos, on their network news last night!!

Beaver County Times did racing write ups on drivers and some results some years back. The Pittsburgh paper has someone giving race results and driver reports.. We should be glad we have you Walt and Don Gamble and a few others to bring racing to the front. And the ones who place the results on Racestud is a real help to the ones who can"t make it to the tracks. So Thank You.

Amazing!!!!!  I has to be for sure that he wasn't hurt nearly as bad as what we all feared for at least hours.  I was going to work on a coming column Monday night after he race and just didn't feel like doing it.  The prayers of the entire racing world have been answered!!
