Watching people play video games...please tell me this does not cost the viewer money.
If reading that makes you feel compelled to tell me, "It's not video games, it's simulation..."

Agreed. I canceled my dirtvision until we are allowed to resume our normal lives and they actually tried using that as a pitch to keep me around. Get outta here lmaoWatching people play video games...please tell me this does not cost the viewer money.

If im wrong and anybody familiar with IRacing wants to point me in a direction where I can use a baseline HP laptop and a console controller to play, have at it.

Go to your local red white and blue store
Pick up a dell pc for 20 bucks
A keyboard for 2 bucks
A mouse for 1 buck
And a monitor for 20 bucks
The money for iracing is in the Video Card !
And a Cable internet connection only .. others wont stay connected !
You can spend anything you want like always !
But I build my own car with plywood and mounted the monitor in a comfortable spot to see in my wood car
Have been racing online since 2000 !
Force feedback steering wheel brand new about 125 bucks for a sufficient one
You can spend 350 and get a super duper one that will last till your sick of losing because you know nothing about Racecar setups and or just cant drive worth a dam !
Yes its a simulator !
You will quit before you get any good ! JUST LIKE REAL RACING!
I have 5 parts computers on a shelf and mix parts whenever something breaks
Got lucky from a job where the kids tossed their gaming computer in the dumpster and I took a 300 dollar video card out of it and its top of the line
But even if you bought the wheel new
The computer refurbished on eBay
And the Comcast connection you have now
You could go iracing for 300 bucks
Denny Hamlin and Dale jr have 30,000 dollar simulator rigs that turn and move like an airline flight simulator but its not necessary!
You dumbass3s that think a simulator is a joke would never get in the air as an airline pilot because pilots are required two sessions per year in a simulator or dont fly!
I have been able to hang in the top 5% from NASCAR racing that started 1996 through 2007 and on the
Dirt track racing 2 that some guys on here I got together with like the guy who does graphics up north forgot his name
That was RatBags developers from Australia
You will be racing against the whole world because all it takes is internet connection !
Have raced people from Australia and everywhere else!
I heard Tony Stewart make a snark comment about simulators one time and I thought what an ass!
Now look at him trying to sell one!
William Byron and Dale jr have flat out said they use the NASCAR simulator to practice the tracks and even down to braking at certain signs on the billboards next to the track !
It aint no joke
Now if you pay to watch ... thats funny
You can download the iracing software just to watch and ride in car with any.
Of the drivers by picking different camera views or just pick the spectator camera view
But ya Abe to build your own for 50 bucks you gotta get off the couch

Lernerville is dead on. I kept looking for Tim Thoma in the stands on the drive arounds.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Bubba had a little crash with Clint Boyer in their Simulator replacement race at Bristol.
Bubba got mad and quit the race ...and so one of Petty Enterprises Sponsors dropped them !
Thats how real simulators racing is Bubba!
Blue Imue WAS the sponsor

Whats nerdy about it is the cost and effort that goes in to actually being able to play. Ive looked into it, because admittedly it looks awesome but there is so.much.tedious.effort. involved to get set up when one can just push a button on a regular game console. Like, Jesus Christ, if you dont know how to customize a PC (in a day and age when fewer people are using anything but a smart phone to access the internet) from scratch and have it specifically taylored for gaming along with a four figure gaming steering wheel, youre already out to lunch.
If im wrong and anybody familiar with IRacing wants to point me in a direction where I can use a baseline HP laptop and a console controller to play, have at it.
There is an article on NASCAR.COM about what you need to know to get started with iRacing. It mentions that Ty Majeski is the highest ranked oval iRacer in the world and uses a single screen laptop and an off the shelf Logitech wheel.
It says this about using a game controller instead of a wheel and pedals.
While you’ll definitely, definitely want to race with a steering wheel and pedals, technically, you can race with a traditional Xbox or PlayStation controller. You’ll probably have a very tough time, however. iRacing is not a forgiving sim, and you’ll want precise inputs from your steering, throttle and brake.
