Are they about equal?

How much weight would need added to one or the other to run them against each other?

At the Willie White Memorial in late September both classes qualified. The pro stocks had 3 cars under 20 seconds. The crates had 9. Noah Brunell was the fastest stock at 19.755 seconds. That time was faster than all but the top 5 crate cars. Youre comparing 3 links to 4 links birdcages with panhard and lift bars and the Crates weigh 500 pounds less. I cant see them ever racing together. But it is interesting to see how fast the stocks have gotten.

thank you

Though the end all are looking for is lower lap times there are different ways different stuff goes around the track.

You mentioned 500#s.

Just thinking about that it reads to me like you could put 300#'s on crates and they'd have a tough time beating pro stocks.

I think it would be fun racing to watch if they were equal in lap times because I don't see them being equal at all places around the track.

I think you'd see the lates and stocks not making equal times all around the track.

If each as I suspect would have their advantage at different places on the track I think there'd be a lot of give and don't take which would make for fun watching for fans.

Might even put the 500#'s on the lates and really make them show their best and show the best of the best to be able to beat the stocks.

... sure might be fun to watch?

It's sure a shame so many racers got sucked into something "cost effective" that's just a little itsy bitsy bit above in lap times then a stock and from what you offered, only because of the weight break.  Heck of an expensive way to go just a little bit faster and an sad sad scenario for racing.

Like everyone else I watch the racing of crates between other crates looking for slight differences that make the slight difference between them.

I think like everyone else I watch pro stock racing because it's quality and damn exciting to watch.

...  Sad the you can be so close to everyone else if you buy in is such a BIG HOOK to racers who want that win or chance for a win as all racers do.

FUN, yeah you race for the fun don't you.  And the chance or dream of a win really isn't there is it?

answer: see, "Are you a turtle?"

One other thing about enjoying watching racing.

When I'm at a track either the usual one or one I went to for a special show and find out the pro stock tour is also there I get excited about it.

I have yet to get excited about a crate tour race.

Not that I don't enjoy the racing and enjoy watching the good drivers in crates, it's just that there not fun to watch like stock are.

If your talking Penn/Ohio pro stocks ......I recall back in 2014/2015 ... can't remember exactly pen

n/ohio cars were at the McKean fall classic and a guy named Fuzzy (can't remember the last name) set a time equal to the fastest late model that day ........ much heavier car .... but rumor was a "real healthy" motor !!!  I do know it was fast that day and when he won the first question in the interview was "is your engine legal ? ......the answer was a "Oh ya" with a large smile !!!!!!!

Pro Stocks in this area are not allowed to run 3 Links.  They have to be double triangulated 4 links or Leaf spring cars.

I don't see Stocks running with the Crates simply because of the weight difference.  I remember when "Illegal" stocks were forced to run with the lates.  That got shot down with people's concerns that the weight difference was a safety issue.

I know the technical definition of a 3 link includes the panhard bar. I just meant they have a shock, a spring, and singular control arms versus the XR1 style 4 links found in the Crates.

No a 3 Link is just what it says it is....3 links that tie the rear end to the Chassis.  Penn ohio Pro Stocks are not allowed to Run 3 Links.  4 links and Leaf Springs only.  4 link cars must be double triangulated (can't be parallel bars like a late model.)  No bird Cages.    Just pointing this out because it's even more impressive that a Prostock running a more restricted suspension, being 500 pounds heavier throws down lap times just as fast as a car that was designed for circle track and specifically tuned for that application.  Yes the pro stocks are allowed open engines but you still have to put that power to the ground.

I no I used to stay till the end on most Friday nights and would see some of the best racing of the night from the sportsman guys. On a track that was usually used up long before they ever got to stage. I always said it before and I'll keep saying it. Wonce a month, the pro stocks should be rolled out as the first feature on the night. They deserve it.

They tried putting them in the regular rotation. It created a "hostage crisis," with the guys who were already angry at having to sit through the sprints and late models, or late models and modifieds, or modifieds and sprints. There are people who think that 2 divisions a night is too much racing for them and hate that the rest of us get to see more than they want to watch.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.
