Maybe I'm not paying attention but i don't remember seeing a cone at BRP races before. I could be wrong. To further Skull's point, I was just glad to be out at a track and having fun.

We do appreciate the efforts put into the racing surfaces... I would think much of this type of stuff is fixable, ho ever may be more difficult than I would think.

They whine about no races and when there are races, they whine about everything at the races. Whiners should have to pay more.
I think people are more upset that promoters don't put much work into getting a surface prepared anymore nowadays.grade it on Monday dump some water on it Saturday in go racing seems to be the norm now.

If we could just get all these track preparation experts to offer their expertise before the races instead of after the races.

Anyone who thinks the track surface in this link took away from the quality of that race is a spoiled baby.
WoO sent a message that the track was a problem when they took a preventative measure before the race even began and announced that all restarts would be single file. This was essentially a non-factor, as there was only one restart, after a red flag because one guy, who nearly dumped it 2 laps in, didn't learn anything from his close call and finished the job 3 laps later. Same guy who was also the only one to flip the week before (Did you like the, "Dude...I like...totally biffed it out there, man" interview?). Same guy that has 1 win in 400+ starts in 7 full seasons on tour.
After that, they shortened the race (originally 41 laps, as it was the Jason Johnson Memorial). Surprise, surprise - nobody else made it look dangerous out there. 25 straight green flag laps. If you want to use this as evidence that even the WoO race in less than ideal conditions, fine. But it's certainly not evidence that less than ideal track conditions ruin a race.

It would be beneficial if the track experts that new at all actually listened to other people perhaps. But then again you see the end result from that at Mercer last weekend.

My biggest issue was the cone starts for all divisions. If that was BRP's decision, then good, Mercer isn't as bad as I thought.
The Chiller Thriller was in March. It's hard to get a track right in north western PA in March. I went for the same reason 90% of the people in the stands did, because it was the first race of the season. It would have been nice for better racing, but it's March, so that's not really all that likely. Don't judge a track prep in this area in March, unless they pull off a miracle and get it right. Then appreciate the amazing track prep.

The leader being wrecked in the prostock race started with the cone restart. Fosnaught pitted for front end damage, making him have to start behind cars that raced, basically at caution speeds. By the time he could fire on the restart the leader was already setting up for 3. The leader tried to pass Fosnaught a few laps later and they both went for the same spot at the same time on a one groove track, new leader. No cone, that doesn't happen.
My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

I understand the cone restarts for sprint cars, (410s anyway). Those are wild beasts that would rather be upside down than right side up. The cone gives everyone a chance to sort out what's going on in front of them.

They just put on new clay. It is what it is. You have to give them a chance to get it sorted out. Now, maybe if the the same concerns are there at the end of July, then maybe the expertise and effort, or lack thereof can be questioned. But not now.
Don't know how I feel about the cone being in front of the flagman. It's tough because the field that is still in 3 & 4 want to mash the pedal. It seems to me that until the regulars get used to it, there are going to be some chain reaction incidents.

It wouldn't be so bad if everyone mashed the pedal, but some of those drivers never get up to speed. When you have fast cars that can't start the race until they're already fighting to stay on the lead lap it can't end well, nor should anyone with a brain expect it to.

Mercer has always been a dusty shithole. A little clay isn't going to fix their issues. When the mini stocks are your most competitive division and put on the best show you have major issues

How is it so difficult to figure out that if you don't like going to a track, don't like how they do things, and it makes you so miserable you have to whine about it for weeks on end that maybe your life would be a whole lot better going/doing something else.

I wish you guys would stop bashing mercer is what I wish. The place has always been dusty, those folks are trying there damdest to keep the place open. When they had the sprint cars and big block mods on a weekly card the place was usually packed. Go bitch somewhere else.

I hear what you're saying, but people involved with some of these tracks and sanctioning bodies read these posts, so we are doing more than whining.
