Listen I'm not bashing Mercer in any way. I'm only speaking the truth. I'm sorry if I might be ruffling a few feathers. This isn't about how many people you put in the stands. They don't try hard enough. There's no excuse for the lack of track preparation. The drivers deserve better. I really hope they finally put the same effort into the track as the race teams put into their expensive hobby. Unfortunately I think they're headed to another lost speedway...

I hear what you're saying, but people involved with some of these tracks and sanctioning bodies read these posts, so we are doing more than whining.

Also, this is a discussion forum. We discuss things. Things we like, and things we don't like.

Amen. If nobody voices their displeasure than everybody would be thinking they are doing something right and continuing on.

Did you folks watch any of the races in Florida this winter?  Very few of them had good track prep, and very few races were fun to watch, probably because they had a lot of cold weather this winter.  So you might want to gives the locals a break, and like Skull said, if the problem still exists in July, then it really is a problem.

Unless their checked out and can go up top first place early on, as was with Mercer, will hug the bottom throwing marbles outward.

It's up to second and third place to work the line out and try to pass on the outside or pull the leader off their protected bottom, maybe then being able to get under them.

Until the "REST" of the field moves the line out getting the leader to move out, it will be you have what you have and race on it.

I one time watched Tim Shaffer thru the whole race running second off of turn four at Fremont run in his own line for a last lap pass to the checker.

There was no reason other then not wanting to widen the track to protect their less then first place position by the drivers, that kept the track from widening out.

They were all running to protect their position more then running to win the race.

Most times for drivers it's more about protecting their position in the pecking order then about winning.

With the usual reason being they don't have the equipment or money to win against the fancy stuff.

Thing is the fancy stuff thinks in terms of winning and not their place in the pecking order.

The only issue I saw with the track was the huge number of rocks picked up by track crew and that problem came with the dirt.

A rock problem fix can only come if the track owner chooses to fix it.

Otherwise it will continue until some year in the future the track crew picks up enough to make it so so ok.

OH and thank God that damn tire just past the start cone didn't destroy a car or hurt a driver.

It's a 410 disaster waiting to happen.

Track IMHO looked great except for rocks and one friggen tire hazard.

There's only two responsible for what goes on on the track, the driver and the black flag.

Nothing watching the race made me think it was a problem at Mercer, butt IMHO a pointed finger instead of a black flag from a flagman should only be stuck up the flagman's ass.

If what was done on the track didn't warrant a black flag the finger point is just bullshit and will be treated as bullshit by the drivers.

IMHO King did a fantastic job winning the race.

He kept just far enough ahead of second place to keep you off your seat thinking at any moment there might be a lead change.

Fact I saw was King held his composer was the fastest driver if he didn't have a faster car and did what was needed to stay in the lead.

Smooth job done by King who seems to be learning it's not about going slow to go fast rolling around the corner and pointing it straight, it's about rolling around the corner in the most efficient way.  The  ONLY reason that 6 car from up north did well was he had less zing and more rolling go in the corners.

Smooth is slow but faster most times then pedal to the metal.

But roll at a slightly accelerated speed efficiently because of the new available right side weight in the corner is usually what's also fast between points A and B.

And I write this bull only because I have fun writing, hopping someone tells me it's wrong, I'm full of it, explains why and I learn something.

For whatever reason, no one was able to make the outside work, even after they groomed the track before the BRP feature. Anyone that tried just got freight trained on the inside. Rudolph tried to go out there in one and two and damn near looped it.

King starting 1st on a single file, cone start. All he had to do was stay in the grove, period. He did that. I'm not sure that constitutes good driving at his skill and equipment level.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

I actually thought Krummert and Justin Haers were both faster. They would have had to root him to get by, but neither have a history of driving that way. Rudolph isn't above moving people, but probably figured he'd be setting himself up to get dumped eventually. Pretty sure Rudolph has no problem pushing the locals around, but he knows full well Justin Haers is no one to fool with both on and off the track. A buddy told me Chad Brachmann found that out the hard way at Syracuse years ago.

Agreed, and I'm glad to see that they kept it clean, even though they didn't advance either. I just prefer a clean race to a bunch of moving and spinning each other. I'm too much of an idealist, I know.

I would rather see King win by virtue of only the numbers 1 or 2 ever sticking to his fingers, a single file restart and not making a "fatal" mistake, with faster cars stuck behind him, than to see a front bumper contest.

I'm not a "rubbin's racin'" guy in the sense that some fans define it. And that is, the means justify the ends if a guy moves someone to win. If you can't pass a guy clean for the win, then take your second and move on. To me, it appeals to the lowest common denominator of fans in short track racing.
