Jacoby and Rougeux get career firsts at Hidden Valley
May 15, 2021
Clearfield, PA - Chad Rougeux of Clearfield picked up his first career win ever in the Winters Sign Co. Street Stocks Saturday night at Hidden Valley Speedway, while Fernwoods Ryan Jacoby picked up his first career TH Port A John Semi Late Model feature.
Other first time winners this season included: Derek Rodkey of Osceola Mills in the Subway Super Late Models and Rob Williams of Williamsport picked up his first win of the season in the Little Auto Sales Four Cylinders.
The only driver to repeat on this season was Todd English of Clearfield in the Hugills Sanitation Small Block Modifieds.
Subway Super Late Models did a four wide parade lap in memory of the Late Jess Mayhew, who passed away over the winter. Mayhew was a huge supporter of racing and a co-sponsor to the four cylinders last season. R.I.P. Jess, forever in our hearts.
Derek Rodkey and Del Rougeux led the field to the green with Rodkey taking the lead and Rougeux in second, and challenging at first, but Rodkey was dialed in and he opened up a sizable lead, leaving Rougeux to fight for second, as Luke Hoffner, Billy Eash, Josh Whetstone and Denny Fenton were all vying for the second spot. Whetstone spun on lap 9, regrouping the field for the final time and giving Rougeux and Hoffner another shot at Rodkey, but with a clear track, Rodkey took off like a shot from a cannon, and held on to get the win. While he was heading for his first win of the season, Eash was pouring on the power, as he moved past Hoffner with two laps to go, then he started to pressure Rougeux for the second spot, but he ran out of time. At the waving of Brian Biancuzzios double checkered flags, it was Rodkey getting the convincing win over Rougeux, Eash, Hoffner and Fenton. Heat wins went to Rodkey and Rougeux.
Levi Ardery and Ryan Jacoby brought the TH Port a John Semi Lates to the green flag, with Ardery taking the lead at the start with Jacoby in second, then on lap 4, in turns three and four Jacoby took the lead from Ardery, but a lap later, Ardery was in front at the line. Jacoby wasnt having that, as he shot under Ardery entering turn three the next lap and regained the lead. As he led, Ardery now had to fight off Paul Ivory, as he moved into third from his six place starting spot. Ivory took second from Ardery on lap nine and he was all over Jacoby like a bad dream, the pair went side by side several times, but it was always Jacoby leading at the stripe. When the final checkered flags fell it was Jacoby getting his first ever Semi Late feature win.
Jacoby said he hated seeing that late race caution, but it made it interesting, he said. Ivory was a close second with Ardery holding on to third, Adam Nixon was fourth and Jared Ivory was fifth. Ardery and Jacoby won the preliminaries.
The Hugill Sanitation Small Block Modifieds saw Trent Ogden beat Jim Dingo Kirkwood off the line and set the pace. As Ogden was leading, he had first Chris Luzier in second then Todd English moved into the second spot and was reeling in Ogden, who still had a decent lead, but on lap 14, Ogden spun the #72 in turn four and kept the momentum going, just losing the lead to English. Unfortunately for Ogden, he could not catch English as English went on to his second win of the season. Ogden held on to second, Luzier was third, Kirkwood was fourth and Nathan McDowell was fifth. English won the heat.
Chad Rougeux beat Rich Howell off the line to start the Winters Sign Co. Street Stock feature, with Howell sitting in second and Raymond Reynolds in third. Howell then lost second to Reynolds as Rougeux continued to lead. Howell eventually pitted and had lost a lap, while Reynold was trying to reel in Rougeux, but Rougeux was determined to get his first ever feature win, as he held off all the efforts from Reynolds to get that first career win.
Rougeux, who has been racing for 29-years, never gave up and finally got his first career win. I ran my first race on asphalt when I was 17-years-old, he said. I never gave up, I came close to it, but I never did. He said racing is the greatest sport in the world, with the greatest fans.
Reynolds was second with Shannon casher, Howell and Todd Geyer completing the top five. Howell and Rougeux split heat wins.
Rob Williams and Chris Anderson brought the Littles Auto Sale Four Cylinders to the green flag with Anderson taking the lead and Williams falling into second. The front two were putting on a great battle, working in and out of traffic, between cautions, when Anderson was the caution on lap 8, when his car caught fire on the front stretch. When the race resumed it was all Williams holding off Jason Elensky for the win. Cory Price was third front his 16th place start, with Williams Kephart was fourth and Justin Fedder fifth. Williams, Anderson and Elensky took heat wins.
