July 12, 2021 (Sandy Lake, PA) Four of the five sanctioning events got underway last weekend. Lernerville was forced to cancel after a clogged drain made track conditions inadequate for racing. Hidden Valley, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Latrobe Speedway, and Hummingbird Speedway were able to get their events in on Saturday. With his victory lane visit at PPMS, Jeff Broniszewski’s #08 has secured 4 wins out of his 6 sanctioned events during the 2021 season. In the 20J car owned by James Fosnaught, the 2019 Penn Ohio Co-Champion Jason Fosnaught picked up his first 2021 season Penn Ohio sanctioned win at Latrobe Speedway. Hummingbird Speedway had an impressive field of 19 pro stocks. Former series’ members and strong pro stock contenders, Fuzzy Fields and Gary Luzier picked up Series sanctioning wins at Hummingbird Speedway and Hidden Valley Speedway, respectively.
As we enter into the upcoming weekend, Thunder Mountain Speedway is scheduled to host the 2nd PSX Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series powered by Can-Am event on Friday, July 16th. The $3,500 to win, 150 to start race will give Series’ members an opportunity to collect 25 bonus points for participating in the event. All pro stock drivers will register and pay $50 at the Penn Ohio Series trailer. Heat group qualifying action will determine starting positions. If 35 or more pro stocks participate, a $200 to-win non-qualifier feature will be held. Drivers will be eligible to win a Hoosier tire or an American Racer tire. Series members will be eligible for additional prizes including racing product and certificates awarded through random drawings. Past winners of Penn Ohio Series events at Thunder Mountain Speedway include: Noah Brunell and Josh Seippel in 2020; Andrew Gordon in 2019; rain out in 2018; Fuzzy Fields in 2017; Rob Shook in 2016; Nate Smith in 2015.
Race teams will need to also make plans on attending the 4th Annual Ray’s Race the following weekend on Sunday, July 25th at Tri City Raceway paying at least $3,500 to-win. Ray’s Race is in honor of the late Ray Virgile, owner of R.K. Virgile Scrap Metals. Ray was a huge supporter and sponsor of area race tracks. Don’t miss out on being a part of this great event.
The points are updated and available on the website. Josh Seipple continues to update lead with 1429 point after 15 races. Brett McDonald now has 14 races in and sits in 2nd with 1331 points. Curtis J. Bish advanced to 3rd with 12 races, 4 wins and 1184 points. 4th place points’ sitter, Josh Blum has 1144 points after 13 races. Chase Lambert rounds out the top 5 after 11 races and 994 points.
