Interesting comment from Colton in victory lane about his Uncle John. Even after having been away from racing for years, John Flinner manages to remind everyone that hes a POS.

He heard some boos which he said was due to his last name and that he wanted to give a special shout out to his uncle john who was posting on facebook that mike norris was going to wax the field and it was really great to prove him wrong.

Didnt really come across in a joking manner, seemed pretty resentful.

I got the same vibe, Abe. His comments didn't sound like friendly nephew/uncle ball busting. As far as Colton, that was the best race I've personally seen hm drive. He earned that win.

He puts on a show at Port runnin the high side, hes started last a few times in last couple years and made it into a top 5 by passing cars, not them dropping out

Nah, no issues with Colton whatsoever. He was way too young and inexperienced to run the Lucas tour when he did and was way in over his head, but hes really come along regionally and did a nice job on a track that seemed to completely change 20 laps in last night. Seems nothing at all like his uncle and thats a good thing.

You also have to remember, Abe, that he was in his own equipment, not John Johnson's, while running the Lucas tour.  He would have done much better otherwise, even considering his inexperience.

Agreed.  And on the other side of that coin, Cole Macedo sure lucked into his win.  He flat ran over Davey Jones, like a puppy running into a sliding glass door.  How poorly he perceived Jones's speed was incredible.  I've seen the black flag for less, and was half waiting to see it then.  And why not?  He blasted Jones, who had to drop out of the race as a result.  Do sprint cars not get the black flag?

To cap it off, Carson's little brother loops it on his own and still manages to win.  Sadly, it reflects poorly on the competition level in western PA when a guy (kid?) can see the track for the first time, make multiple huge mistakes, and still spank them.  His closest challenger?  Another Ohio driver who, best I can tell, is typically a 10th place car in his own area.  I know, I know, there were some top cars not there.  But Attica will be off next week too, so the locals can try again.  Of course Lynch will still be in Iowa, not making the Nationals, but Flick and Sodeman can try to defend the home turf.  Maybe more Attica cars will come east next week after seeing those results!

ds2, was it you speaking highly of the quality of local competition recently?  If so, can you remind me of your thinking, or link the post if it's easier?  Maybe I'm missing something.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

I could be recalling it wrong but it seemed like he went straight from the RUSH series to Lucas, no? It dont think it would have mattered if he was in Wells Motorsports equipment, thats a huge leap.

On the flip side of this Brandon Spithaler goes out to Attica quite often, has won there, and almost always finishes in the top 5.  Spithaler actually runs better at Attica and Wayne County than he does at Lernerville.

It also helped that Macedo started on the front row in a very competitive ride. That is the same car Dale Blaney drove to victory at Sharon Speedway, winning $3K on July 26, so we're talking about a pretty good young driver, starting on the pole on a tricky track, in very good equipment.  Zeth Sabo is a very good 305 driver who was won a least one 305 A-Main at Attica this year, but once again, he started on the front row.  You'll remember that Sabo had the fastest time in hot laps when the track was still very fast, so, even though he is an up-and-coming young driver, he is in very good equipment.  Passing was at a premium in the 410 A-Main, the hard charger only advanced 6 spots. Some nights, track position means everything, and last night was one of those.

If Brandon Matus, Carl Bowser, Darin Gallagher, or Michael Bauer had started on the front row, they more than likely would have won and we would not be having this conversation.

I believe he had been driving a Super Late Model for about 2 years when he went out on the Lucas tour.  He drove simultaneously in the RUSH Late Model division and the Super Late Model division.

Good point, Flash. Dan Kuriger hadn't won in four years until last week when he started on the front row of a dry/slick track and lead every lap

I said the same thing about Macedo. It was more the car than him and the fact that the track conditions made passing difficult. The guy smashed in to a lapped car and spun on his own with no one around him. He will never have an easier win.

Good points Skull.  Some might think lapped traffic (76) caused one of his "mistakes".  But I don't know how he didn't see him.  He just ran into him.  As for the 48 he always runs hard but he didn't make that one mistake this night.  and against good comp also!!  I understand the Boos for  his Uncle John.  But I always smiled when I new he was gonna race,  I hope Colton reaches that level of success.

Look at the thread you started Flash,    Nice job

Colton is trying to learn, something John was never willing to do. Colton isn't intentionally running over drivers because they are between him and a win. Colton has respect for other people. None of those are traits his uncle has shown at the track.

As far into it as earlier this season, I still considered Colton to be a lesser photo copy of John, as a driver, but he's listening to people, and trying to get better. You can see that he's doing things different, and not just running into people every week. Even when he was hitting other cars, it looked like he was just over his head. You could tell John just thought it was wrong for other drivers to make him have to race them.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

I never seen any one driver or team get into as many pit fights as old John and or his crew back in the day !

Brandon Spithaler is a Lernerville track champion, goes to Attica often, and has one win there.  That seems like evidence to support my point, rather than refute it.  Dale Blaney winning in a car (at Sharon, no less!) hardly makes a case for it being top-tier equipment (not that it isn’t).  You do make a good point about starting on the front row. As far from smooth as Macedo was, it would've been a different story if he had to pass for position. However, if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

Good point, Flash. Dan Kuriger hadn't won in four years until last week when he started on the front row of a dry/slick track and lead every lap

Yes, Kuriger has had only one win since 2017.  Outside of the 13, 2, & 23, the same can be said for the combined total of the rest of the field the night he won.  In fact, from 6th on back that total is 0.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Colton is a hard driver. If he gets into another car its because he is just trying very hard to win and slips up. He just doesnt go out there and slide jobs another car just to do it like John did.
