APRIL 23 OPENER AT SHARON CANCELLED DUE TO SATURATED GROUNDS

By Mike Leone

April 21, 2022                        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, OH)…The 2022 season opener scheduled for this Saturday (April 23) featuring the ULMS Super Late Models at Sharon Speedway has been cancelled due to saturated grounds.  The event will not be rescheduled.  The 93rd anniversary season opener will now take place on Saturday, April 30 featuring the first of four appearances by the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars presented by Mobil 1.

"We're disappointed to have to cancel for Saturday but even with the warm weather predicted Mother Nature didn't leave us any choice," stated General Manager Dave Willoughby.  "We were hopeful for some dry weather this week, but cold and wet conditions on Monday and Tuesday followed by more rain on Thursday sealed our fate.  We pride ourselves in having a quality racing surface and that simply wasn't going to be possible after accessing the situation.  In addition, the spectator parking areas are simply saturated.  We wanted to make this announcement early to allow fans and racers the opportunity to make alternate plans."

In addition to the All Stars racing for $6,000 to-win next Saturday, the Whelen Econo Mods will also be on the card.  Pits open at 3 p.m. with grandstands at 4.  Racing is scheduled for 7 p.m.  Reserved seats, advance general admission tickets, patio seats, VIP fan suites, and camping permits are on sale at https://sharonspeedway.simpletix.com

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305. Lernerville 1 hr away was in the same boat and have been working since last night to get the place ready. Perhaps more gravel or better drainage and shaton can race then.

You would think with the equipment that Kirila has, they could make some improvements pretty easily.  Maybe even expand the parking down by the pond for people going in the pits.

I agree. If I own a business and it kept on flooding and costed me money, I would definitely be looking into making improvements to make money. I only go to Sharon when they have big late model races. It seems like they pull the plug on these shows fairly quickly and blame it on wet grounds.
