All that is needed is an electronic device which will equalize engines by controlling both maximum rpm and the rate of acceleration.

Tracks could purchase for random distribution on race day or require sealed serialized units from a specific manufacture installed.

Pretty simple solution is install what ever engine you like and it's performance will be controlled by the "rate of acceleration" and "maximum rpm".

as an example:
https://patents.goog...atent/US6112719

Sense firing of sparkplug or coil for input to control the firing of the sparkplug
If you can set maximum rate of increase for sparkplug firing you also will set maximum rate of acceleration.

Some engines might make it easier to set maximum rate then others.

But if everyone's using a similar engine which cannot accelerate any quicker then any other and would not be able to go beyond a set rpm and rate of acceleration would equalize things.

High cost engine work now is to be able to maximize the rate of acceleration or maximize it at either the top, bottom or middle depending on needs.

If you could no longer alter the rate of acceleration you would be wasting your time to build an engine to anything other then being able to meet the maximum rate of acceleration.
It is and would be simple using traction control to equalize engine rate of acceleration instead of the car's rate of acceleration.

Gearing is not variable so you would still be able to best match gearing to your track but everyone's engines would all accelerate at the same rate.
Outcome or how fast a car is would become totally dependent on setup, driving and weight.

edit: It would also eliminate any expensive need for selling and promoting speck and seal racing engines because it would be a cheap alternative to speck and seal.
Now you have to buy speck and seal at what ever cost stated to race be able to race.
Inexpensively control the rate of acceleration via electronics and maximum rpm and you have the same benifit to racers and low instead of high cost.

Now that sounds like quite the plan.

That seems like it would end up being like the crate stocks at Lernerville and look at how that turned out.

Sounds like traction control for dummies. I like it, let guys build there motors, they pull into the pits install the box and let them go racing. Ds2 you need to take that Idea and find someone to build you a control box.

Engine builders could still weave a tale of how their engine better maintains the maximum allowable rate of acceleration better than others.

It would be tough to dispute how a statement of better recovery after a planned miss fire to limit the rate of acceleration makes one brand better over another.

It would also be tough to prove except by racing and if the best hot shoes and setup people pick a particular brand as always historically racing racers will gravitate to what they feel is the best builder.

Under this scenario I think to be equal to or superior to a crate you'd need more motor than a crate.

But how much more and at what additional cost if any or at how much less a cost would have to be discovered.

It opens up the door for racers to throw together something at a lower cost and go racing competitively.

It's another way to ask "How slow do you want to race?".

Ever watch an antique tractor slow race?

They are exciting because the outcome is not known no different then "fast" racing.

Personally I like to watch and usually pay my money to watch fast not slow.

I just posted an idea, that's all it was and maybe is.

So more, run the highest line, don't lift and hang on.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.
