The point is it takes more hp away from going fast to squish tires into the track then it does sticking them to the track.
That IS the basic principal your using to enhance via chemical prep and mechanical tire prep.

You NEVER see anyone get a tire ready to race by trying to get more tire to work with the track.
ALL siping, grooving, needling and everything else done to tires is to be able to use and make LESS amount of tire stick to the track.

If I'm correct which I am I just gave the maybe secret objective of all tire work and prepping.
... ya wana go fast get more grip using the same amount of tire put to the track or better yet less tire.

Ok why is the above true and why does it work?

In ALL cases what getting more bite/stick and not just simple grip from your tires does to allow you to go faster is to enable you to direct dynamic weight movement away from what your racing so more available hp and momentum can be used to accelerate and get you around a turn instead of being used to push tires into the track for grip.

You can still use your chassis and on track forces to "bang and push" a tire or tires into the track when needed for a short period of time,  but all other times more bite/stick will allow you to go faster because you can use more available hp and momentum to accelerate and cruse a turn at a higher speed.

All of the above and reducing to a minimum any conflict between tires for control of direction is what allows efficiency and fast.

To "go fast get more grip using the same amount of tire put to the track or better yet less tire."

Looks like this may not be correct because any time you lower air pressure you cause more tire to be used.

... yes, butt ...  lowering air pressure also is distributing the same load over a greater area and changes how every part of the tire works.

Must be the exception to prove this rule.  ... :)

--------------------------

edit:  If your setup correctly and track conditions are going to remain the same:

When's the last time lowering air pressure was what made you go faster?

answer:  never

It may have gained you grip if the track gets slicker and you did better on the track but you also would be going slower not faster because the track lost grip.

Best you could hope for with that condition was equal speed next time on the track.

If conditions remain the same, you were setup ok and you lower air pressure you will have to end up going slower.

edit again:  the above... just depends on how much hp you have available.

Available hp and available grip go hand in hand.
