Website says the balance of the show will be made up in early '24. They probably lost their tail on this event this year.

They need to do something different, starting with scheduling. Everyone knows that the weather around here begins to get sketchy at the end of September into early October. Secondly, instead of 10 divisions, why not trim it to six and run two nights? I know the obvious answer is that "practice" night is relatively easy revenue while 10 divisions equal more back gate. However, their physical fan attendance and cars per division would likely increase without holding team's hostage for Thursday.  For most fans, this event has turned into a slog nearly every year. And from the looks of the stands, fans have grown weary of it.

I think a lot more fans would have been there had the weather been better.  They're were quite a few people with two-day $75 pit passes on Friday, and several that were there for three days.    Eight of the fifteen years the Stampede has run, the car count has been over 300, I think the event is still viable.  I really enjoyed Friday's night's program, but didn't go back today because of the weather forecast.

The weather definitely played a role. I had 3 groups that were going to camp but all decided to stay home. That right there alone was probably close to a $1000 between them all and passes and camping fees. Friday night is never a good crowd with high school football. Saturday is when they normally pack the place. If they want all those cars they have to have it after all the local tracks close..

It kind of defeats being an end of year bash, if it's not at the end of the year, and not much of a bash. They usually get it in, and it's fairly well attended most years. Even if not, I think it's a good closeout to the season. I like all of that racing, myself. If someone doesn't they can just leave when it's enough.

My dad drove late models in the early 70's at North Hills, Butler, Mercer, Blanket Hill, and occasionally Tri City. We won the last late model track championship at Blanket Hill.

Plenty of race tracks available to buy or lease to test your theory. Your theory sounds easy and practical enough, but you have to admit they are exponentially more successful in what they do than most. I just hope they appreciate what they have in Dan Bauman. What than man does to provide an exceptional racing surface is extremely rare.

No, hes right. There was low attendance for this event last year too with much better weather. This is my yearly
take that this is a nothing happening event that could be so much
better if they eliminated some classes that no one wants to see and raised the purses in the classes that people that do, namely the big 3, maybe also the Rush lates. Drawing a better quality of car in every division will draw more people. As it is, youre expecting people to make a big deal over regular show fields with 4 or 5 backgate classes.

Super Lates, Sprints, Modifieds, Rush Lates 10,000 to win.
Street Stocks 5,000 to win.

First, that dude defends everything they do up there, so I take anything he has to say with a grain of salt. They could eliminate auto racing all together and replace it with old ladies pushing shopping carts and he'd be on board. But I digress.

Apparently, some people like the event the way it is. I like your take on it better. They don't have to pay $10K to win, but they could pay more than they do with less divisions and one less money grabbing night and in my opinion get more cars and more fans. But whatever. I guess people like to camp up there for two nights, sit around the fire and get sh!t faced. Pretty much the same thing they do at the Firecracker. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

All tracks that have the back gate grab and run, all deal with weather. It's usually getting chilly, the weather can flip 180 degree's within hours. Then you go up against what I believe is the biggest battle you have. High School football. Don Martin, to my knowledge, never raced once football started. Smart man I would say. I've been to many, I've frooze, I've been at the track at 1 AM, I always would say NEVER AGAIN. Yea right, challenger was the best.

I like your idea, but that's a big financial risk that late in the season without a backgate supported by those divisions "no one wants to watch".  While that may be mostly true, those bottom 3-4 divisions practically pay themselves.  Your idea is $45,000 to win alone, not to mention the payout throughout the field.  As a fan, I'd love to see it, but I wouldn't want to be the guy signing the checks and balancing the ledger on Sunday.  Even at $45 per person for a two day ticket, you'd need 1000 people through the gates just to pay the winners.  Local racing has shown that $5,000 or $10,000 to win shows don't always bring bigger fields, especially in a near recession at the end of the season and with a purse that's top heavy and falls off a cliff and barely paying tow money for positions 11 through 20 or 24.  The purses for the Stampede may not pay 5/10K to win, but the payout top to bottom is decent.  I do like the idea of splitting the divisions up over two nights, but to jo's point, you're not getting anywhere near a fab four crowd Friday night up against high school football and then if the weather is crappy Saturday night you're taking a five figure bath to finish your season.  That's how tracks end up on the Berkshire Hathaway site!
