Lincoln speedway initiated a virtual flagging system last week at their annual Ice Breaker.  It is an LED display which signals the flags while being controlled by the race director in the tower.  My first reaction was negative but after seeing it in action I think its a great idea.  Its safer for the flagman cause he won't be in harm's way and its easier for the drivers to see.  Read more about it here:

A lot of money being spent that could have been spread around for a variety of things. What happens when something hits that panel and the lights go out.

Progress often takes a little getting used to.  I think it's a great idea, all the safety systems are not likely to fail at the same time, plus the raceceivers are also in play.

Your right flash, raceceivers are in my opinion a great way to inform drivers what's going on. Those kids that used to be on the front row of seats with there flags watching that guy hi above him wave those flags. They are the ones that will miss it the most.

They're already, basically there for show at most tracks now. Me, I like that part of the show, but I can see them going away soon.
