Horstman Continues Domination, C. Smith Prevails, Richard Wins, and so does Anderson, in a Different Car. This Saturday marked our fourteenth race this year and the staff at Waynesfield Motorsports Park would like to take the time to thank all of the fans, drivers, crew members, and car owners that have so far this year come to our facility and helped with the successful year we have enjoyed so far. Once again we had another great evening of racing and it is all to you guys and girls. Lead intro for the evening were the Mini-Sprints and taking the prelim honors were Steve Bendele and Chris Smalley. At the start of the feature it would be a family affair with Keith and Kory Crabtree taking the lead for the first lap of the race. After that a familiar face returned to the front when Jared Horstman took the lead on lap two legging out at times, an enormous lead. Shortly after that Becca Stiefel pulled off of the track continuing the bad luck she has had since her second place finish a few weeks back. Twelve laps into the race the 40 of Steve Bendele got into the back of the TJ Jenkins machine bringing out the caution and closing the gap between the leader and second place. Horstman was still leading with the top-five being Kory Crabtree, Keith Crabtree, Devon Dobie, and Chris Smalley. On the restart Devon Dobie was able to get by Keith Crabtree and began the charge for second place Kory. In the end though no one had anything for Jared Horstman and he would leave the rest of the field to battle with themselves. The rest of the top-five was Kory Crabtree, Devon Dobie, Keith Crabtree, and Chris Smalley B-Rad Racing Supplies Mini-Sprint Heat 1 1 Steve Bendele 2 TJ Jenkins 3 Devon Dobie 4 Todd Keen 5 Rusty Strausbaugh 6 Becca Stiefel 7 Steve Allen 8 Michael Hill 9 Rod Henning B-Rad Racing Supplies Mini-Sprint Heat 2 1 Chris Smalley 2 Jared Horstman 3 Kory Crabtree 4 Keith Crabtree 5 Hank Zimpfer 6 Tyler Hesson 7 Jamie Paul 8 Bob Owens B-Rad Racing Supplies Mini-Sprint Feature 1 Jared Horstman 2 Kory Crabtree 3 Devon Dobie 4 Keith Crabtree 5 Chris Smalley 6 Todd Keen 7 Hank Zimpfer 8 Rusty Strausbaugh 9 Tyler Hesson 10 Jamie Paul 11 Steve Allen 12 Steve Bendele 13 Michael Hill 14 TJ Jenkins 15 Becca Stiefel 16 Rod Henning 17 Bob Owens Second class for the evening would be the Non-Wing Sprint and with rain all around in the state of Indiana a few of the regulars from other tracks came to play nice with our own guys that race weekly at Waynesfield. Taking the early ten lap wins were Corey Smith, Shane Cottle, Jon Stanbrough, and Dustin Smith. Starting on the front row would be Dustin Smith and Jon Stanbrough and the fight for $1200 started early with Jon streaking out to the early lead over Corey Smith who wanted to protect his “home turf”. One lap in Zac Osborn stopped on the front stretch fearing he was on fire getting out of the car quickly, luckily he wasn’t. The top-five at this point was Jon Stanbrough, Corey Smith, Dustin Smith, Shane Cottle, and Joss Moffatt. After the race restarted Jon continued his lead with Corey staying close the whole time and brother Dustin having his own battle with Shane Cottle for the third spot. At the half-way mark the 14 of Stanbrough began to pull away looking like the 23rd win of the season was just ten laps away. Corey Smith, and for that matter Dustin and Shane Cottle as well were having an easier time in lapped traffic and that brought them back up to the leader along with some hard driving. Then the storyline was set, 18 laps in the feature the 26 of Cody White stopped in turn one with a flat left rear and third place Dustin Smith had contact with him nearly ending his night as well. The top-five at this point was still Jon Stanbrough, Corey Smith, Dustin Smith, Shane Cottle, and Joss Moffatt. With the white flag in hand Jon pushed up in turn three giving Corey Smith, who hounded Jon the entire race, the needed space for the lead. Drag racing down the front stretch the Smith machine took the lead and then the win. The rest of the top-five were Stanbrough, Shane Cottle, Dustin Smith, and Joss Moffatt. Taking heat race honors were Frank Luchini, Bill Keeler and Gary Richard. Starting on the front row for the feature would be Gary Richard and the “Hot Rod Hippy” Bill Keeler. Taking the early lead would be the Richard machine with Keeler and Frank Luchini in tow. Five laps into the race though Luchini spins out, putting himself on the tail. The top-five was now Gary Richard, Bill Keeler, Tony Anderson, Stan Smith, and Steve Duty. After the restart Stan Smith began his climb to the top when third and then second place were taken in the laps following the reintroduction of the green flag. Eleven laps in the Bowersock machine spun in one bringing out the caution and taking away the big lead that Gary Richard had built up over Keeler, Tony Anderson, Jim Szekacs, and Steve Duty. It was also under this caution that then second place running Stan Smith had a flat tire and pulled into the pits. On the next lap Buzz Jacobs, Brent Hole, and Ed Hounshell got together in four bringing out the yellow once again. The top-five was unchanged. One more lap later the left rear of Tony Anderson must have looked more than good enough and Jim Szekacs simply drove right into it bringing out yet another caution. The top-five now was Gary Richard, Bill Keeler, Steve Duty, Chad Rosenbeck, and Nick Roslett. The last seven laps ran continuous and with all of his might Bill Keeler could not catch up to Gary Richard who took his second win of the year at Waynesfield. The rest of top-five was Steve Duty, Brian Post, and Chad Rosenbeck. Modified Heat 1 1 Frank Luchini 2 Tony Anderson 3 Steve Duty 4 Jeremy Grover 5 Buzz Jacobs 6 Kevin Free 7 Denny Szekacs 8 Chris Ullery Modified Heat 2 1 Bill Keeler 2 Tom Treon 3 Jim Szekacs 4 Ed Hounshell 5 Nick Roslett 6 Jon Henry 7 Scott Bowersock 8 Brad Weick Modified Heat 3 1 Gary Richard 2 Stan Smith 3 Chad Rosenbeck 4 Mike Holbein 5 Brian Post 6 Brent Hole 7 Pat Decamp Modified B-Main 1 Brent Hole 2 Denny Szekacs 3 Scott Bowersock 4 Jerry Hayden 5 Pat Decamp 6 Jon Henry 7 Kevin Free Modified Feature 1 Gary Richard 2 Bill Keeler 3 Steve Duty 4 Brian Post 5 Chad Rosenbeck 6 Frank Luchini 7 Nick Roslett 8 Tom Treon 9 Mike Holbein 10 Jeremy Grover 11 Tony Anderson 12 Denny Szekacs 13 Pat Decamp 14 Jim Szekacs 15 Ed Hounshell 16 Buzz Jacobs 17 Brent Hole 18 Stan Smith 19 Scott Bowersock 20 Jon Henry “They really know how to work that track during the night because it was much better in the feature than in the heats tonight.” “My guys had the car set-up right and it really helped starting up front.” “I gotta thank Lazer Chassis and 5 Star Truck Wash in Anna, Ohio for the help they give on this car.” Final event for the evening would be the Stocks and this would be a night of heavy attrition. Taking heat race wins this night would be Greg Knoch, Jason Jimison, and Tim Bowen. With feature lined up and the two winners of David Hollon and Weasel Philpot on the front row the stars we thought were aligning. The way it ended the star looked like a couple of crossed eyes because only six cars finished the A-Main. David Hollon led the first lap of the feature; the problem was, he was also the first to leave the track never completing lap two handing the lead over to Weasel Philot. Three laps in Jerry Ferguson and Rod Lacey got together on the front stretch putting the Lacey machine pitside but also the rides of Eddie Shaner and Justin Long for unknown reasons. Weasel was still leading over Tim Cornett, Tim Bowen, Chad Barr, and Jim Post. Shortly after the restart Tim Cornett took the lead and brought the top-three a huge lead over fourth place. Eight laps in Mike Kreuger lost a left rear wheel slowing the field down once again. The top-five now were Tim Cornett, Weasel Philpot, Tim Bowen, Jim Post, and Tony Anderson. Right at half-way Tim Bowen made the move for second, and then a lap later he put himself into the lead while Tim Cornett slowed on the track falling back to fifth. Thirteen laps in Nathan Hemminger spins in two bringing out the yellow flag with the top-five now being Tim Bowen, Weasel Philpot, Tony Anderson, Jim Post, and Matt Philpot. Shortly after that Tony Anderson made a bid for the lead and the win trying to duplicate his Modified win a week earlier. With only a couple of laps to go the Bowen machine went pitside releasing his top-five position. Tony Anderson took the black and white flag with Weasel Philpot, Jason Jimison, Jim Post, and Matt Philpot rounding out the top-five.
