NLMSS ran at Ocala Speedway when it was asphalt in early to mid 2000's. It was fun because we ticked off the asphalt guys because the dirt cars were faster than the asphalt lates. HAD to run asphalt tires, dirt tires just grind up.
What basically ended it was some of the teams figured out if you ran the J bar from the right side of the car or ran the long style bar from the right to the left rear axle (behind the rear end) it was worth a ton of speed. Like anything else in racing you had to do it or weren't competitive, so car count dropped and they took it off the schedule the next year.
They do look really good on asphalt, and the racing is a little bit better than standard asphalt fare, but not as good as dirt.
