Just like the topic says.............Dry/Dusty on top....but they watered the wall?!
What were they thinking??? Why make 2 laps shooting water on the wall, before the features? What good did it do?
Made the very top greasy as hell for the first few laps in the Mod's feature...then all the moisture on top was gone, but the dust sure wasn't!
I couldn't look to the West any further than the flag stand during the Sprint feature because of the dust blasting me in the eyes. I checked my watch right as the last sprint car passed under the checkered flag at speed.......and it was 6+ minutes before the dust quit rolling in front of the lights in turn 1........6+ minutes!!
That's BS!
Lima needs to give the track a little shot of water, where they race on the track...not just wash the wall..... If nothing else, but to make things more pleasant for the people who -paid to see the races-.
Too much like Eldora for me. Dry/dusty, yet they water hit and miss on the track, but water the heck out of the concrete pit lanes.
Lima can surely see that the track was dry/dusty from half way on up, yet they spray water on the wall, and not the track.
Hopefully they enjoy the $31.75 I spent there July 3rd, 2009.........it'll be a long time before they get any more of my money.

Dust is part of dirt racing...... It is stupid when people get mad about getting a little bit of dust in their face....... But at the same time if the track would have been wet and rutted up you would have been saying they need to not water it as much ...... Its dirt track racing the track isnt always perfect but i bet the racing was great..............
Look Need for Speed, it's that time of year when the tracks are gonna dry out fast anyway. But do you realize that at Eldora, there are 22 to 24 sprint cars going at a breakneck pace of 13 sec per lap at 140 mph. I CAN PUT UP WITH THE DUST TO WATCH THEM PILOT THESE ROCKETS AROUND THE TRACK. I have a shower at home and I don't care if I get dirty. IT'S DIRT TRACK RACING, AND I ALONG WITH COUNTLESS OTHERS, I LOVE IT!!!!!! LONG LIVE DIRT!!!! LMAO!!!
Interseting.....2 posts saying they love getting dust in their eyes...1 of them being from somebody who evidently wasn't even there.
BUT, neither post could/did explain the thoughtful decision to shoot water onto a steel wall, and not to spray water onto the racetrack!
Why did they water the track after hot laps, but water the wall after the heats? Did they think the cars were going to race on the track in the heats, but they were going to race on the wall itself in the features?
Over 6 minutes of rolling dust AFTER the sprint feature was over....apparently that is acceptable.
They water the racetrack at Gas City and Waynesfield, and not just the wall there. Funny thing about that....the whole night (and in any/all classes) you can look at any place on those tracks, and not have to squint, or wear goggles to be able to see.

I was there and from what i saw, they were watering the cushion not the wall. and if you noticed in the sprint a-main the 17 car was running right on that cushion and running away with the race. they had a nice smooth track with two to three lanes of racing what else could you ask for. as far as the dust goes, if the wind was blowing the other way you wouldnt have anything to complain about. Dust is a part of DIRT track racing, if you dont like it than you should prolly go to a pavement track and get rubber thrown on ya.

Sounds like Luker had a pretty nice night? it has looked like rain the last couple of days , They proably didnt want to put a bunch of water on it then get a rain and let it rut up.
You know its funny Eldora can be dusty as crap but no one complains , but let lima and all crap breaks loose.
I wasnt there last night, but if the track was like it was for the Allstars, i would have to say nice night of racing. Lima is good for a couple of lanes of racing. At least its not a follow the leader place.
Location:Lets just say I do alot of traveling to watch races.

I would have to agree with Skip. People like to pick Limaland apart. Just as Skip said when Eldora is dusty no-one complains a bit. I know I would rather go watch a race where there is some good battles for position and stuff instead of follow the leader anyday. Im not knocking Eldora a bit but short tracks provide alot of better racing but of course that is just my opinion. Have a good one.
jady: The 'cushion' in 1&2 couldn't have been 3' wide.....by the time you are 'into' that, you are into the wall. So, -what good- did it do to water less than 3' of essentially unusable racetrack??? Apparently the only people aware of the wind blowing into the stands, were the people sitting in the stands....you know, the schmucks that paid at least $12 to sit there...... Maybe the track gurus should pay attention to that, and water accordingly.
A little bit of dust is to be expected...but when the kids are 'drawing pictures' in the dirt setting on the bleachers after 1 race....it's ridiculous.
They made 2 trips around the track spraying the wall...why not turn on the back of the truck, and wet down the place where most of the guys had been running, and were probably going to run again?
....................................
I have nothing to really complain about regarding Eldora, because I haven't been back there for over 2 years.....why???? Because the last race I went to there was the 4 Crown Dust Bowl race.
I sat in the last section of bleachers in turn 4 right by the walkway past the wall. After the 1.5 hour delay to attempt to do something with the track, they got started with the heats. The last of the Midget heats were getting a bit dusty. By the 2nd lap of the 1st Sprint heat I couldn't see the flagman...by the end of that heat race, I couldn't see the racetrack at all....I could only hear the noise of cars coming at me, going in front of me, and then away from me. I could barely see the top row of people sitting in chairs that were directly in front of me. Suddenly the noise of race cars went quiet...people around me were looking at each other saying 'What happened?'.....they were lined up for the 2nd heat, and coming down for the green when we could see the track again. After the end of Sprint heat #2, I got up, and left.....and so did a hell of a lot of other people in that section of bleachers.....most of them saying things about Eldora, and what Tony could do with it.... that I can't repeat on this web site.
I was one of several people complaining on Indiana Open Wheel...
One of the site members posted a picture he took during the sprint heats from the top row of the south end in the main grandstand...you could barely see the flag stand from his vantage point.
................................
With people not having a lot of 'discretionary income' right now, and the huge struggle for people's entertainment dollar...movies, home entertainment systems, bars, concerts, other sports, etc, etc, etc.....these race tracks need to get off of their high horse, and totally make the night enjoyable for the paying customer. When the kids are complaining about the dust in their eyes...and constantly asking 'when can we go home?', it makes the evening not a lot of fun for the parents, and also makes you think 'you know what, I've got a lot of damn dust in my eyes too'......which -if- those parents come back, won't bring the kids, or the wife will stay home with the kids.... If that happens, the track has already lost at least $12 in paid admissions....and then, since the kids are at home, where are the future race fans going to come from???????
Would you be 'happy' if you paid $xx to watch a movie, and could only see half of the screen? Would you be thrilled to 'at least be in a theater'....and if somebody said 'man, it would have been nice to be able to see the whole movie'..would you tell them, 'hey, if you don't like it, stay at home and get Pay Per View, ya whiner'

Thats why they sell googles. But from what others were saying the track was smooth and several lines. I heard a track offical saying that to many people come to a dirt track dressed like they are going to a party all dressed up. As long as the track is smooth with several lines of racing i will take the dirt on my hot dog any day. I would rather fight the dust than seeing a bunch of ruts with driver getting hurt and cars torn up. You have your right to your opinion, Its a dirt track and dirt will fly.
I like the racing on short tracks. I havent been to eldora that much in the last couple of yrs. But i have ate my fair share of dust there to. But its a dirt track and dust will fly. No digs on eldora but they have had its days to along with other tracks.
Like on Limas web site it said the allstar feature the lead changed 4 times on lap 18, Thats what i like to see.
Skip, with your kind of attitude, I don't want to see you cry about not many fans being in the stands.... You are no different than Frickie telling car owners and drivers "If you don't like it, leave"........
But then again, I have seen you cry and make excuses about the lack of cars in the pits, and fans in the stands. It's not so much the economy, as it is the way people are treated, if they felt they got their money's worth, and if they enjoyed being there. Telling people 'If you don't like it, leave', pretty much guarantees you that they will...and they probably won't come back.
But, most of your posts are fluff anyway. You act like everything is perfect as long as you can stuff your face with a hot dog
They sell goggles because track operators are too lazy to use the water truck. Look at pictures of races in the 20s and 30s....Men is suits, women in fancy dresses with big hats, pit crews all wearing white. It was an EVENT. They raced in the daytime, and back then they used oil on the track... Why you ask?...TO KEEP THE DUST DOWN!! Maybe they should have just sold goggles and told the people 'hey, it's a dirt track, what do you expect'. Are people now supposed to go to the races looking like they just climbed out of the gutter?...that way when they leave looking like they rolled around in a farm field, nobody can tell??
The end result of the cocky 'it's a dirt track, so like the dust and quit bitching' stupidity, will be that the tracks will die, because nobody is in the stands. Why do you think Lima ends the season when HS football starts???? Because the crowd drops off on Friday nights genius.
A guy wouldn't be happy if he bought a 12 pack of beer and six of the cans were empty, you aren't happy if your car is broke down 15 days out of 30, you wouldn't be happy if you paid to have your yard fertilized and half of it is green but the other half is brown...........but you pay to watch races, and can only see half of the main attraction because of the dust, and you should be happy.......that's asinine!
Interests:Racing!!! Boys Boys Boys and more Boys..... lol

Wow... Im not trying to get into this but... they probably only watered the wall for the cushion. Last friday night they had a beautiful cushion and it just rolled nicely so everyone was commenting about how good it was. They were probably just trying to get the same thing and make people happy. And i agree with Skip if you go to a "DIRT" track you are going to get DIRTy! Ive been to Eldora once or twice myself and i didnt have a problem with the dirt an =d dust.. Besides if you have a problem with it sit at the top of the bleachers. Most of the people that get on here and complain are the ones who sit at the bottom of the bleachers anyways. Theres like 3 sections of bleachers sit up higher! We sit at the top every Friday night and we have nothing to complain about. And the races being a quote "Event" ya that was a LONG time ago!!! Ya you go out there and tell the drivers there crews have to get white suits to racing!!! RIGHT!!!! Id like to see that. You talk about the economy and money but complain about dirt and the races not being an Event anymore. Its because times change and people cant afford to go out and get suits, dresses and white suits just for friday nights to go racing and dress up. Friday nights are when you go hang out with friends kick back relax and watch some good racing action. Like when you have a dash to the finish line and someone pulls a slide job and barely makes it. Or when theres a battle for first and then theres a wreck that throws the line up off. You dont get on here and complain about that. No you turn to your friends and say i just got my moneys worth. Or your not even worrying about it because your on the edge of your seat watching how things are gonna play out.. I mean come on guys i heard friday night was a GREAT sprint feature with Horstman almost pulling off the win. Nobody came on here and posted about that. Instead we are going to get on here and bash our hometown friday night entertainment to hang with our friends??? I say we have it pretty nice. Im not trying to say anything but i heard down at Attica one of the sprints went airborn and they dont habe any fences and it got on top of one of the racing trailers and slid across. Now come on guys!!!! We have brand new grand stands on the regular family side and nice Special AIRCONDITIONED Boxes on both sides. And a great pit area. And good food you guys are always talking about the hot dogs lol. So come on.... Dont bash for a little dirt ENJOY YOURSELF!!! And its the weekend to celebrate our country and our service men........ God Bless
Well mister need for speed the only thing you need to do is cry in your beer if you have one. For some one that has just got on here you would know that not all of my posts have been fluff. I for one was limas worse critics about 4 yrs ago. I ragged on them for the bad rought track conditions. Some of the people like Fricke wouldnt give me the time of day because of some of my comments. I told them that the cosmetic surroundings didnt match the racing surface. There were some times 10 stock cars being torn up during a feature. Lima has done a complete turn around in the last few yrs. tell me another track where you can see 3 and 4 wide racing. Have you ever thought that in the last few days there has been a cloud covering, and maybe they were afraid if they put to much water on it and we got a rain we would have another proablem like we did a yr ago when they got hit with a rain and never got to race because of the track was to wet. If you remember the following week the admission price was higher and any one who was there the week before didnt have to pay the extra price to get in. That is a class act facility. Maybe some people just hold them to a higher standard because they are owned by a university. They make mistakes just like every other track does once in a while. tell me why guys like Hull and Sherman travel as far as they do to race at lima? Its because they are treated well by lima. And not because they are winners its because they know a nice facilty when they see one. So you have voiced your concerns enought about the track. The next time you go to eat a hot dog just think about me, I,ll be watching the races while your sitting at home saving your money. Then you can get on here and read about how good the racing was that night.

Do you really think that the little splash of water they put on the track is going to knock the dust down? This time of year your gonna have more dust. When was the last time you walked the track after a race? It's not bone dry, it's pretty soft and tacky. So where is the dust coming from? Maybe from 750 hp or 850 hp rocketships flying around a dirt track. Drive by Lima or any other dirt track for an All-star or Woo show and see how many people are there, a bunch! I know some REAL fans who check the weather to see which way the wind is blowing. That way they might sit in a different seat to avoid some dust. But most of us sit in our regular seat every week and enjoy great racing. And when it's over we stand up, brush off a little dirt, and walk out talking about the great show we just saw. As far as when the season ends, check out some of the other tracks around here and see how many of them end around labor day weekend. You don't think drivers and their crews don't like to watch H.S. football or have family members in scholl activities?. What about the good people who work at the track every Friday? I bet some of them like football. It's a good idea for the fans and drivers and that makes it a good idea for the track.
RacingChicky:....Please You posted, there for you have gotten into it.
I have seen more races at Eldora in less than 1 of the old HBO weeks than you have ever seen there.....let alone going clear back to 1972, so please don't waste your time telling me about races, racing, dirt track racing, where to sit, etc, etc.... I practically grew up there.
Sorry skip, I don't go to the races to drink beer, or to eat hot dogs.........
I was on Racestud for years, and got tired of your blind defense of mediocrity. I was also tired or rushing to make it to Lima on a Friday, just to be severely disappointed in what I had spent my money on...so I have been going to other tracks for the last few years. I remember you saying that you pretty much only went to Lima, and sometimes Eldora and at that time only 1 or 2 times to Waynesfield. People were telling you to go to Gas City, Haubstadt, Kokomo, or even Bloomington, to see what a real dirt track was prepped like....and you wouldn't do it!!!
Don't try to twist the facts around Skip...several years ago you -were not- one of the people raising hell about the track conditions.....you were doing your same old cheerleading routine for LMP.
I was one of the people raising hell about the actual track conditions, and saying people didn't pay their money to go to a place with fancy restrooms, etc, they paid to see races. You however, wanted to continually tell about how the old Limaland was a hole, and how you would walk across a plant to go take a leak, so we all should be happy because the 'new LMP' was such a great facility. You were almost as big of a cheerleader for LMP as David Hale was.
The rest of you who 'just don't get it', are no better. It's not my fault you have never seen a -good track-....wet, tacky, no dust all night....to know the difference. Maybe it's time to go to a few different places and broaden your horizons. Then again, you could just keep going to the same ol' places, get a dirt bath, and wallow in your 'it doesn't get any better than this' sillyness.
Man give it a rest you have proved your point about the dust. Im sorry i dont come up to your level of race tracks facts. I started going to races in 1962, I to have seen a lot a races at eldora. I was told by one official a couple of yrs ago to lay off of limaland with some of my comments. Im done with you it just seems like you want to beat a dead horse into the ground. Sure seems like there are always a lot a people in the stands at lima so some one must like the racing.
And get your facts straight i wasnt always a cheerleader for limaland. I have taken my digs on the place. So you must of had some dust in your eyes in reading some of my posts in the past. Have a good day. Like some one just said who cares.
ok ive never heard a dirt fan complain so much about dirt this is pathetic absolutely pathetic. i wasnt at limaland this past weekend one of the few i have missed but i have been to waynesfield twice this season and if you think they are any better than limaland then you obviously went to a different waynesfield than most people do. that track is nothing but a dust bowl all season long and i can take my 2 year old son there and he wont complain about dust. this topic is pathetic if you cant take the dirt stay home and go to that movie theatre you were talking about.
lmao i wonder what this need for speed was thinking when he walked into the track friday night "oh well im at a dirt track i hope the dirt stays on the track and dont come get into my precious eyes." good lord
If you want to talk dust , Eldora sunday afternoon usac sprint car racing in the 60,s. Cars with tires 1/3 as wide as today, with less power than the cars of today. I dont think they knew what a water truck was. Those sprinters would throw rooster tails of dirt 20 feet into the air. That was dust and you know what you over looked it for the racing.

Hmmm...All those years racing and you are just starting to notice the dust? If you got tired of complaining about the track for all those years, why did you come back? If you think water is the answer maybe you should talk to Gene and let him enlighten you, or maybe you should just go to Indiana and watch racing. Move on!
