IF YOU ASK ME THEY NEED TO STICK TO THE SCHEDULE FROM THE GET GO. SOME PEOPLE PLAN A RACE SEASON AROUND CERTAIN TRACKS. WELL AT WAYNESFIELD YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS GOING TO HAPPEN. I THINK THAT THEY NEED TO LEAVE OUT THE BIG MONEY RACES, AND JUST PAY MORE MONEY FURTHER BACK IN THE FIELD. THAT WOULD GIVE THEM A BETTER CAR COUNT. THEN A BIG CAR COUNT WILL PUT MORE BODIES IN THE STANDS. I HOPE THIS WASTED SEASON IS ENOUGH FOR THE PROMOTER TO GIVE IT UP.

Wasted season? Talk about short-sighted. Between the awesome UMP summernationals race, the constant great racing in the nonwing cars, the talent displayed by some of the young'ns in the mini sprints, the return of the compacts, an All Star Speedweek show, 2 Tugatruck events, the growing field of karts on the go kart track, the tuff trucks points race heating up, and the fact that they keep trying new things to make it better, I think it's been a pretty good damn season. If Dean gives it up, where does that leave us? Right back to Greg trying to run the place while working a 40+ hour a week job and a farm? The last I knew, that's why Greg leased it out to begin with, because he doesnt have the time to spend like it deserves. No offense, but Dean has more promoting experience than anyone I know of. So they've changed the schedule a few times. Its a hell of a lot better than the alternative of the whole damn schedule being cancelled. Dean has taken a financial hit the likes of which would probably bankrupt most of us and he continues to try and make it work at WRP. The least that us fans can do is respect that and support the fact that he's trying. A little birdie told me that next years schedule is already in the works, so Im sorry your hopes aren't coming true. So try sitting back and enjoying what is left of this season. You might just like what you see.

I have watched this for two days and I just can not believe how some people can be so selfish and mean and nasty. I really did not except that from racing people. I am sure there are reasons why things are being done the way they are being done. I think the schedule that was first put out was the schedule Dean wanted to run. I am sure his cash flow took a hit and now he has to do what has to be done. Best thing to do is quit stirring up problems and be glad he is still scheduling races.

Bottom line, it doesn't matter how nice your facility is it's what you do with it that keeps folks coming back week after week.

Well, Oakshade definitely proves that! That said, you're right on. It's hard to be a fan of something when the product changes every week. The shades cars didn't appear out of thin air, people built them to run an established and proven division. Doesn't have to be anything specific, just consistent. Back when I started going to the races on a weekly basis, it was the 360 sprint bandits, mods, and bombers....promoted by ken langhals. As far as I was concerned, there was no better show on earth.....because that's what I knew, and expected every week.

I guess it depends on your standards I believe a nice atmosphere is a plus. I believe race car drivers perfer the grass cut and the track smooth. I believe fans want less dust and also the grass cut. a good and clean concession. Clean restrooms. Waynesfield has all of that. I will continue to support this track until it gets it right. First year is to make mistakes. and second year (If there is one) is to learn from those mistakes.

pick 6 classes, run 3 of them each week: Odd weeks = Non-Wing Sprints; Mods; Trucks Even weeks = 360 Wing Sprints; Stocks; Mini-Sprints Special shows run 1 support class from the above. Pay a point fund for each of the 6 classes.

So if the High payout for the Late Models and low fan counts is the reason for canceling this coming Sunday's race, why are they having a big show for them in September. Big money for Late Models and E-mods. That's the week after the Worlds 100 and the week before the 4-Crown. That's 2 big shows that most dirt track fans are interested. I don't picture most people spending the money to go to Waynesfield with those 2 races surrounding it. Why don't he just skip the Late Models and give a big money show to his 5 regular classes (Wing, Non-Wing, E-Mods, Minis, Trucks). Even a big money show for these 5 classes could be less than what it cost him to get the Late Models in there. I just think it if cost him to much once, then take them off the schedule all together. Go the extra mile for the people that come there week in and week out.

As usual everyone has great comments and concerns.my question is what happens to the sponsors that sponsor any given class that has been cut?
example:If I sponsored the station wagon class and that class was cut.Is the class sponsor guranteed a certain amount of races for a certain
amount of pay?
example: I give WRP $1000.00 for a min of 10 shows and they only run my Shaggin Wagon class 4 shows? Where does that leave me the sponsor? How does this
work? Im not sayin I would sponsor a station wagon race but its a example without getting people amped up, if you own a station wagon and
take offence ......... Im sorry.

i think your on to something that could save waynesfield station wagon races. lets make them stock station wagons and this way dean only has to pay them like 100 to win and last place can have 5 bucks i bet he sticks with that class all season.

lol i had to say something about the station wagon races (the SHAGGIN WAGON)

well that wasnt meant to be taken seriously just as a example but if Spiker will sponsor it Ill find
some "shaggin wagons" I have no clue where Im going to find them! :P Could you imagine a 1978 Wagon pulling
the left front in the turn like a Mod?
The sad part is you all know deep down they would be a blast to watch! Maybe we could get SPEED channel to
cover the first race..... we could call it the "Grocery Getter 200" Of course Skinny Kenny would have to invest in
a wide angle lens to fit the entire car in the pics. Its nice to have fun on here and joke.......and hey, if there is ever a
"shaggin wagon" race at WRP I get full credit. I know you guys would try to steal my thunder!!!!
Maybe Ill get the Golden Car Seat award after all!??

sometimes honesty comes from the strangest places

Mr. Cole ,you are 100% correct,I was there with ya,and we didn't make alot of money, but we knew we were racing every week, and with the anyboby would help anybody atmosphere. To bad the owner of that track(you know where I am talking about) could open his eye's too! You can't make changes week in and week out and expect to keep a fan base or a car count. I hope dean and the rest or the track personal get it together and make it work, cause I like going to the field, great place to race and to watch!!!!!

Well to answer your question modracer, Dean promoted the ol' fasioned way. He made flyers up that were distributed by race fans and racers and yes.......Dean himslef. Then Dean also hit the ground pound trail.....he went to other tracks promoting the race. As for the radio, I don't know because the only radio I listen to is in the mornings on the way to work. I know he's done plenty of TV ads this year but I don't recall seeing one for the Summernationals. Bottomo line is he did promote....promote.....promote but it's just not there this season. Hell Nascar attendance is down 25% this season also. This was the first year that I went to Bristol and there wasn't a waiting list for tickets. The general fan is simply cutting racing from their "must do" list. That being said we just need to watch our P's and Q's this summer then hit it hard again next year if the economy is back up where it should be......who knows

I go to many tracks and all i ever see him doing is promoting his t-shirt trailer....

Bottom line is, its not about the fans anymore, its about the money. Like i said before. How come Waynesfield is the only track making excuses for cancelling races? come on. There are many tracks throughout the United States. and Waynesfield is one of the only ones that has to complain. You cant expect to make money if ya dont spend money.

How about having a deal for local businesses or schools. They get so many free tickets. nothing that waynesfield is doing now is working fan base wise...i say we need new ideas. I like the Shaggin Wagon idea. Maybe i can get my grandma out to the track. She gets enough speeding tickets...

Sorry, I'm responding after only reading the first sentence of your response. The T-Shirt trailer is his wife's not his. Trust me when I say this, he let's her promote that and that's the way she want's it too!!!!!

He's not making excuses for canceling races. The only reason you even know what he said is because someone asked him why he took them off and he's answering them. If someone ask's me a question then I'm going to asnwer them. So to say he's making excuse is crazy.......he's making decisions and standing by them.

So Waynesfield is the only track that has to complain about making money huh???....bud you better get your facts straight! Go to www.ohio3trackchat.com and see what they're talking about at Shadybowl, Columbus Motor Speedway and Kil-Kare........same issue! Attendance is down everywhere this year.

Some things that you've said are great ideas SP Motorsports but I tend to step in once you start running down what we've done. Forget the past lets all concentrate on the future.

Here are some things that are hard to understand:

1. We've advertised on the radio, TV , Newspapers, Racing publications and that didn't seen to draw more fans or spread the word about WRP.

2. We've handed out flyers in probably about 20 surrounding counties in this area....no help

3. We had a $5 night......now come on if getting in for $5 doesn't boost the attendance then nothing will other than free.

4. We're tried just about every class under the sun that has car counts in this area......no help

5. We had a tug a truck and it didn't do too well

We finally got to see a small bright spot last week. Our kart track had over 80 karts show up and the racing was awesome. The night neded late but everyone wqas very pleased to race there that night and it looks as though that's taking off again.

Now if you think having something like a station wagon race will draw people then we can pose the thought to Dean. I just worry that it's too late in the year to have that. I think the insurance will also want cages and other safety items in the cars which will mean people have to have time to build them.

We'll survive and be just fine in years to come. Please don;t think that we're not listening because we are. i can assure you that Dean knows what is written on here and sometimes he acts upon your ides. Please keep tossing them out there.

I think you better get Mommy and Daddy to teach you some manners. It's not very polite for a CHILD to run his mouth about adults or adult business, especially when he makes things up and tells lies about things he has no clue about. If my kid said the things you say on the internet, I would beat his ass and make him deliver some apologies.

With that said, where do you get off saying it's not about the fans? They've started doing lots of things to make it better for the fans. Prime example is the wheelchair platform. Or do you think that was built for Dean to sell t-shirts on? How about the little giveaways they've started having at intermission? How much of that do you think puts money in Deans pocket. Dean didn't have to give away a ride in Jack Hewitt's 2 seater the night of the speedweek show, but guess who that was for? The fans. How about the Racing for Kids with Cancer promotion on the 8th. Dean isn't getting anything for that, but they're giving away pop and hot dogs to those who donate toys. I'm not certain, but I believe a school is coming in this week or next week thanks to Dean and Jane. I've heard other things that are in the works too, but I think you get the idea already.

Just my 2 cents, sorry if I ticked anyone off, but I'm sick of this kid's crap.

There has been one thousand four hundred tweny six views on this story. If we could get that many more people in the stands we would not have subjects like this to talk about.

Im sorry but you dont need another class like a station wagon, People want sprints, mods lates and stocks, Then fill in with the other 3-- trucks, mini,s and compacs. Its hard to compete on a sat night when you have eldora, oakshade, and fremont running on the same night, Tracks that have had a fan base for several yrs. There is only so big of a fan base to draw from. And i dont care what any one says it is a bad economy right now.
