Thanks for input and well wishes. This class is all about bring new drivers in bringing back some of the racers we lost and not losing guys from the upper divisions by not letting them drop back. Plus we are keeping Dirt and Fastrak out of it to eliminate additional costs with their rules and fee's. With some luck and good management maybe the modifieds can regain their popularity and prominence they once had in our areaKeep the rules the same as the NY 602's. The problem with the modified division in Western PA is the division lost all of its promoters no one is promoting the division anymore. As far as the modified car counts, look at the car count in every division at every local track. The economy is tough, fuel is expensive and tracks make it more and more difficult for drivers to afford to race at all(transponder, radio, tire rules, DIRT license etc...), let alone more than one night a week. The tracks and drivers need to work together or neither are going to survive. Concessions are going to have to be made by both parties for dirt track racing in our area to continue to not only survive but regain the prominence that it once had.
Not only are there very few young drivers getting into the sport but were losing the younger crowd of fans. As racers, track owners and promoters we must keep in mind that the fans are what make it all possible. A night at the track was something a family could do at a reasonable cost and many of them did it weekly that just doesnt seem to be the case anymore. Hopefully that is a trend that can still be reversed.
It is a bold move attempting to get another class going in our area, I wish you the best of luck. As a fan and aspiring racer (who can't afford a competitive small block or big block) I would love to see the 602 class take off and build the modified division back up.

Very interesting. We had the Semi late Crates there with 602 only, oil shocks, 1600 tires, but the rest of the world started using high dollar components and the 604. Once everyone has the high dollar components all everyone does is spend more money to have the same light stuff. We would recommend keeping your components cost effective and with a 602 it should be a nice combo. Probably should at least have a tire hardness rule. Using an open comp tire or a popular series tire in the area allows teams to get used ones from top teams that are always buying new. Using LM tires would make used ones a dime a dozen!
We would have an interest in seeing them at the Monster! Crate motors work great at PPMS as its a momentum track...the cars are still fast with the lower hp motor. Be prepared to hear lots of different opinions and be prepared for racers to favor what they think favors their situation, it's the way we are! LOL...and that's not meant to be negative. If a racer has ohlins gas shocks they will probably favor gas shocks being legal...then everyone needs them and everyone spends more money!
My opinion with the existing divisions of all regional cars is if they don't support the best paying events local tracks offer for their respective divisions things will get worse not better...the specials will go away. BRP has had a good following and is still the best deal for Mod teams I see in the area. There are a few 2 day BRP events scheduled as the year winds down. We sure hope the BRP teams support them so they can continue in 2013. Seems to me racing for $3000 and a higher total purse than weekly is nice to do occasionally.
Good Luck with the 602 Mod division.
