Agreed. Though it is probably a good idea to at least get to 1 different place every season outside of Lernerville/PPMS/Mercer/Sharon. Having said that, the scheduling of the King Memorial with Mercer running their 358's on the same night puzzled me. There are only so many NE Mod style cars to go round. And the Sunday night shows have had good racing by everyone's account, but low turnout. I know that no schedule will be perfect, but some of the decisions seem like they had to work out a last resort event, instead of desired nights/destinations.

Mercer should have made that a non points nite to give guys a choice. We would have had the bigblock there and maybe a couple more cars would have went. Wee had no choice with the points battle. Maybe next year.

Currently talking.g to a track and trying to get the word out about the class. Tracks do want to know what kind of interest there is for car counts. If you have any questions dont hesitate to call. 724-866-8832. ROB

The economy plays a big part. The big blocks are not cheap to run with the 358's being somewhat cheaper. Tire rules factor into that. Open tire rules help cause it gives you a choice. Americans are cheaper than the Hoosiers Plus I can get more life out of them. Thats the biggest weekly bill of expense. Another problem is there are more guys leaving the division than we have coming in. You either jump into the 358's or bigblock divisions which are both highly competitive makes for a steep learning curve. Racers need a place to start and get their feet wet and have the chance to learn. The west-penn mods were a good place to start but Vicki put an end to that. Its time for guys to have a place to start . Im and sticking my neck out and am starting a new division that can maybe bring new guys into the mods. Been talking to mod drivers and they think its a great thing. Already have the rules made up and started handing them out. Gonna be a 602 crate motor mod classs that is keying on budget. Goon be a driver exclusion rule that keep the majority of the current drivers out of the division so guys can move up to it or start racing there and have a chance to run up front. Anybody interested can contact me by calling. 724-866-8832. Rob curtis

Sounds like another Chevy loving class cutting down the low budget ford and mopar guys

just curious, how many of you guys are coming down to pms? it is a brp show paying 3,000 to win. both big block snd small blocks have had success there.it would be nice to see a full field of mods on that big track. Rob are you coming down to support the mod class at pms this weekend? not trying to start anything just curious. i loved big block modified racing since i was a kid going to lernerville and my teeth rattling and the bleachers shaking from the sound of the motors.when the brp tour comes to pms it is balls to the wall racing.you guys are fun to watch on the big track. thanks for your time greg simmons

Nothing to do with brand loyalties just about racing and trying to preserve the modified division in our area by keeping costs down and making it more affordable to race.that and nothing more.

I wouldn't expect many at 70 bucks to get in, and having to be there for 2 days. If there's more then 15 I'd be surprised.

Optimistically, there might be 20 mods there, which at PPMS can look like hot laps if there's not many cautions.

Addicted to Dirt, no therapy or rehab for me please, I'll just learn to live with it. http://thedirtnetwork.blogspot.com/ The DIRT Network

Not gonna be able to afford the trip down. Maybe next year. Out of tires and the till is pretty much empty. Gonna hit the last race at Sharon and start getting ready for next year. Figuring on more big block shows next year.

What's a 602 cost? How about a clam class for how ever much a 602 cost and let any buddy run in it. then it's cheaper for everybuddy that can build there own engine instead of buying a 602

I just seen a 602 in the most current Summit Racing catalog for around $3700 minus carb, distributor, and accessories.

Jegs 3150 with free freight. Everything new. Thats with intake and distributor. All u need is the carb, headers and fuel and water pump. The 602 crate is economical Plus it keeps everybody even. If you open it up it gives guys a chance to exploit the gray areas and do machine work that gives them an advantage. This way its easier to tech and keep everybody on an even playing field where they can work on chassis setup and driving skills.

PPMS won't get many modifieds. Grandview has $50,000 to win and Little Valley has $2000 to win. The only NY car you will get is Weaver. Whaley/Chrysler MAY show.

2012 Race Count - 8 Races, 7 Tracks, and 3 States 2011 Race Count - 53 Races, 23 Tracks, and 6 States 2010 Race Count - 50 Races, 6 Tracks, and 2 States

Randy almost always runs Little Valley and Whaley hasn't been down all year, doubt he'd start now at 70 bucks and 2 days.

So the class that you organize will allow fords and mopars? That's good news for the hundreds ford and mopar guys sitting around waiting for this opportunity.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

Keep the rules the same as the NY 602's. The problem with the modified division in Western PA is the division lost all of its promoters no one is promoting the division anymore. As far as the modified car counts, look at the car count in every division at every local track. The economy is tough, fuel is expensive and tracks make it more and more difficult for drivers to afford to race at all(transponder, radio, tire rules, DIRT license etc...), let alone more than one night a week. The tracks and drivers need to work together or neither are going to survive. Concessions are going to have to be made by both parties for dirt track racing in our area to continue to not only survive but regain the prominence that it once had.

Not only are there very few young drivers getting into the sport but were losing the younger crowd of fans. As racers, track owners and promoters we must keep in mind that the fans are what make it all possible. A night at the track was something a family could do at a reasonable cost and many of them did it weekly that just doesnt seem to be the case anymore. Hopefully that is a trend that can still be reversed.

It is a bold move attempting to get another class going in our area, I wish you the best of luck. As a fan and aspiring racer (who can't afford a competitive small block or big block) I would love to see the 602 class take off and build the modified division back up.
