there was nothing wrong with the clay that was under the asphalt so you are right just peel off the black top and you have a race ready track .wouldn't it be nice to see someone just open it for specials as a dirt track and have the yankee doodle race and maybe some outlaw sprints and latemodels do a big show there ?there isn't a bad seat in the house .i went to their website and read that their races this past year had the largest crowd ever at the track but the last race was the day of the a.m.p practice and i can tell you there were more people at practice than at that last race and the yankee doodle race that jerry redden won( when it was dirt ) was standing room only and the hill was so packed i had to park outside the gait . what a waste of a good race track, hope i win the lottery .

Haha jerry redden now there is a has been that never even was. Dude from hidden valley or gamblers should buy the big track and put dirt on it and use the little track for a landfill.

That track has been a clusterf*ck for just about it's entire existence. This shouldn't be a surprise.

Sure is the truth there. Saw ALOT OF GOOD DIRT RACING up there over the years.

Everyone knows I'm partial to the asphalt. And I applaud TJr and family for giving it a go. Unfortunately you can't argue with the economy. With that being said, if we're gonna go dirt with Clearfield: Five specials a year. No two day shows. I only want to go once per event. Back to the big track is a must. I've heard the "turning the motor too hard", "track is fast enough" blah blah blah. Racing isn't for sissies, in the driving department or car building department. Everyone races on the same track. If you're turning your motor too hard, drop some gear. $10 stands and hill admission. $15 pit pass (still too high as far as I'm concerned since we put on the show but that's how tracks "make" money if there is such a thing). Gates open three hours prior to event. Hill is first come first serve. Half the hill designated as family friendly. Each week the concession stand rotates a charity to prepare food. Make food and drink prices reasonable and the food tasty and real. Three classes only. Late models are mixed. Supers and steel block with weight break. If it's a chassis car, you can run it. There's enough information around to know how much weight makes which cars go which speed. Street stock is run whatcha brung but put them on a skinny hard tire and one wheel offset. Back half cars get a weight penalty (not much though since there are some pretty fast standard config four links out there). Pure stocks are in this group as well. You'd be surprised... Four cylinders are both front and rear wheel drive. Same weight adjustments as before. No enduro cars though. FWD's have to be fully caged and make a real attempt. Once again, one tire compound and one wheel offset. Pay a bonus to the highest finishing FWD. Commit to a five year minimum rules plan so guys (and girls) can build cars. Promoter should be required to go to Williams Grove and learn how to run qualifying and a race program. Three classes is actually too much but there are so many cars available that for only five shows, fans can stand a six hour show instead of an ultra-efficient one class show weekly.

Here is a pic of Bob wearing getting his 500th win over Lynn Gysler in a photo finish at Clearfield.

Lynn went to the back twice. Never saw a bad race there, even the STARS race on asphalt was good.

That guy behind Senior won a couple of races....in both Big Blocks and Lates. His son is a pretty good shoe, too.

Screw turning out back into a dirt track. Repave the infield and shuttle people to AMP!!! That's the best thing they can do with the place since they can't seem to make up their minds on making money or running an asphalt track... Just sayin.

What is their website??? I would like to see what they have to say. Looks like pavement racing in the western PA area could be all but dead!! If Motordrome and Clearfiled don't open, all that will be left is Lake Erie, which is now a "support class" track. THANX!!! Walt

SPEEDWAY FOR SALE

Bainey Family Considering Sale, Lease, or Partnership of CNB Bank Raceway Park in Clearfield, PA

Tim Bainey Jr has announced the Bainey family is looking to sale, lease, or consider the possibility of a partnership with the CNB Bank Raceway Park in Clearfield, PA.

"Unfortunately with everything going on in the other multiple businesses our family owns, you can only do so many things and we cannot overlook those commitments. We are looking for someone who has the time, the vision, and is in a financial position to maximize the potential of the speedway.

There are very few Asphalt Racing Facilities in the Mid-Atlantic Region (PA, NY, MD, and OH) and with the recent announcements by Lake Erie Speedway and Motordrome Speedway - the CNB Bank Raceway Park is in a position to take asphalt racing to a new level in this part of the country. Add to it that businesses have been picking up in our region, the area is seeing growth with the shale gas drilling and its economic impact in PA & OH. Drivers and Teams are wanting to build cars, and the speedway is sitting in the perfect geographic location to bring it all together.

I think everyone realizes the huge success we had last year in rebranding the CNB Bank Raceway Park. Bringing the First Ever Nationally Televised NASCAR Event to our Region was a great deal and attracted the largest crowd ever to the Speedway for that event. As a result, we have been overwhelmed with calls from drivers, teams, and fans regarding a more regular schedule in the future. BUT it’s just not something my family and I are able to pursue with our current business obligations.

I love asphalt racing, and I really want to help make it prominent in this region. We invested a lot in the upgrading the facility to where it is at, and the momentum from our great start last season really has me excited about the future and what lies ahead for asphalt racing in this part of the country. I’ll be glad to talk with interested parties about an outright purchase, partnership, or even leasing to own. We just want to see it be a success."

The asking price is $375,000 for the Speedway. Interested parties may contact Tim Bainey Jr. via email at t@timjr.com for more information or call him at 814-342-7066.

sitting in the perfect position to take asphalt racing to a new level? i agree 100%. Take the slicks off, put some block treads on, and get a little dirty. There's your "new level"

The sad thing about it is, anyone contemplating turning CPS back into a viable dirt track again is going to have to..... 1/ Spend $375,000.00 to buy it. 2/ Spend another $100,000.00 ripping up the old asphalt and laying a decent surface. 3/ Have the resources to run it. 4/ Battle with Americas Motorsports Park, a couple of miles down the road, for fan base and competitors. Big job given the fact Jeff Taylor is single handedly responsible for bringing dirt track racing back to the area and has at all times been willing to accomodate the locals. For that, I think he has the support of the local racing community. The only chance the old CPS has to be viable and survive, is as a 'Specials only' track and no one in their right mind would invest that kind of money, energy and work for 4 or 5 race meetings per year....... well, okay the Baineys did and even that was too much for them. BTW, are there even any asphalt race cars around the region any more? Dingo

Jerry Redden has been racing longer than you've been alive and probably forgotten more about a race car than you'll ever learn in your lifetime.

Unfortunatley money and brains don't always go hand in hand. Tim Bainey likes asphalt and thought that if he built it they would come.

That track thrived as a dirt track even through the ownership of the great Dan Russell...lol.
