I figured someone would have started a discussion on this topic by now, but since no one has, I will. What are everyones thoughts on Waynesfield requiring transponders? Personally, I don't like the idea of adding yet one more expense to race teams. Thoughts?.....

Will pay for itself in burnt fuel on caution laps or missed positions at the end of the night.

Trust me, Ive used them twice in karts, and twice with cars, I love them. The only problems youll have now in lineup is the drivers who don't want to agree with their positions. You can look online to see several things on mylaps.com as well if Waynesfield chooses to do such, however I think mylaps may only be associated with using AMB timers. I know with fremont/attica, they have the lap times, your positions improved, best lap, a lot of info. Here is an example of one of the nights.

happy reading.

Personally , I wish all divisions had transponders . Helps in lining up on restarts and like double checker said ...they assure the right positions at any given time . If I weren't having to sell out due to health I would welcome transponders in the truck class .

I'm not disagreeing that the transponders can be helpful, I just don't think that the racers should be responsible to pay for them. If the track wants to use them, the track should pay for them. Scoring is a tough job that I would not want to do, but I didn't sign up to be a scorer. What if a track can't afford transponders and says anyone who wants to race has to bring their own scorer? That would be crazy. What if the track said, the flagman is late throwing cautions sometime, or doesn't give the one to go fast enough so we will eliminate the flagman and everyone has to buy an onboard system that has lights so we dont need the flagman. That would be crazy. Why should race teams incure more costs to do the tracks job?

Might be helpful, but this isn't the time of year to introduce a new addition to the racers and such. Aren't these things $250 bucks or so? And isn't the unit that tracks the transponders a pretty penny?

Your gonna find out the transponders will be provided by Dean Miracle. You will have to rent them each night. They are one of the best things that a track can have, last year at Eldora my son Jordan and one of the UNOH cars was to close to tell at the finish line and the transponders were able to show who made it to the line first. And just because of that transponder it gave me the extra $20 for the night which payed off the transponder. And not to be mean but if $15 to rent the transponder is going to make or break you for the night you shouldnt be racing.

I wondered how long it would take before someone said that.

I got a low budget stock car but I am in favor of transponders because its more accurate and it would be nice to have the data if they make it available. Last yr bob said at limas drivers meeting they would be coming soon, most likely 2014...progress is usually good and usually has a price

I knew at the Blue Collar Bash they were probably gonna be used at WRP . The guy renting them ($20.00 ) mentioned it . And this isn't new or just bought up . I saw something about it in rules changes back in early January I think it was . And dudes right ....If you can't afford $20.00 a week more why bother racin .

But in the same token, if drivers were told to pay $45 a night for a pitpass, I'd be willing to bet there'd be some fits thrown. However, I do think it is a very beneficial system. No offense to those that score, but there always is the chance for human error when you have 3 people scoring 20-24 vehicles. This eliminates all human errors.

www.westhold.com is where I believe you can get them. They are worth every penny. I do agree, if you cant afford 15 extra a night, you shouldnt be racing, however I do know of guys who love the sport enough that they depend on tow money to get home. I also get Swishers point, I bet if Waynesfield said "Well everyone, the pit passes for this season are 50 dollars to help us pay for our timing system", everyone would be so pissed at the track and blah blah and then people would want the human scorers back. This is the long run may save Waynesfield some money (paying 3 officials a night may no longer be a problem, sorry scorers). My divisions dont require them, I have a friend who bought one for his, and Im 100% sure he wont regret it, and no one will once they get used.

I typed in racing transponders, and purchasing one is about $450, can't remember the company's name. Didn't know they rented them. 20 is pretty reasonable. So drivers at the gate will pay $45???

I would like to clarify a few misconceptions or claims that have been made. I know Chris you and I have talked before about this so I think you understand my points. 1. Manual scorers are almost extinct and have become increasingly hard to find. When you get them you must do everything possible to retain them. We have tried to hire them in the past but there is not a huge market of them around. 2. Transponders will not eliminate the need for us to have 3 scorers. One person has to run the computer still and the other two have to manually score just in case the computer would happen to crash. 3. Rental for the transponders has been posted on our website at $10 per night not $15 or $20 like stated. 4. We have also listed the model name and number for you to research pricing. 5. Computer Man out of Fremont one of our sponsors sells the kit (rechargeable transponder, charger and mounting pouch) for $235. There is a link to him on our homepage of our website. Dean Miracle also sells these units but I do not know his price. 6. Transponders will only be used in the Non Wings, Mods and Mini Sprints this season. 7. Some say "well other tracks give then to you to use or only charge $5". I can promise you that you are paying for it somewhere throughout your evening. It could be $5 higher pit pass to .50 cents higher soda prices. 8. Just as technology gets better in racing ie.... Shock technology, racers will buy what's best to gain the extra edge. Tracks need to stay on top of technology also and first it was raceceivers and now it's transponders. 9. You have the choice of rental or purchase. We do not push you one way or another it's your decision and you have the freedom to research price and shop around. 10. Will you be able to see your lap times? We do not know yet if we will be able to link them to a system or post them somewhere. We do know that there is another device that you can get that will allow you to download your own results anytime anywhere on a spreadsheet. It's called a lapceiver. However, we may have the capability to print your lap times off or post them, we are not sure of that yet and are researching that. 11. The results of the transponders are super accurate and will be the final judgement. There will be no more need to stand at the pay window to argue your point that you got cheated out of two positions. You will be paid correctly for where you finished. 12. If we choose to do so, transponders will allow us the ability to group qualify for certain occasions. 13. The use of transponders was released back in December so we are not throwing it on people at the last minute. 14. Our main goal here is to eliminate and discrepancies and make sure you get paid for where you finish. We are doing this for several reasons: speed show up, score correctly and give drivers more feedback. We think in the long run everyone will love the use of transponders. So in summary if you choose to rent one you will only pay $25 pit pass and $10 transponder rental which totals $35 a night. If you own your own transponder obviously you wont pay the $10 rental and you only need to report the serial number on the front of it to the scorers and you sign in at pill draw. Thanks.... I hope this clears it up a little.

As I stated earlier... I wish transponders were in trucks . Tho I'm selling due to health reason I would welcome transponders in the trucks and gladly buy one ... I was only using 20.00 as an example and am glad to see they are only 15.00 to rent . Good luck to all and just because I'm not racing this year doesn't mean I won't be there to watch and help anyway I can .

Will this fee be added to the pit fee for everyone or just to the registered driver, probably sounds dumb, but just clarifying it for everyone?

Everyone will still pay the same fee we have charged for years to get in the pits and that's $25. Then before the driver goes to pill draw they will go to the transponder table and pay $10 (driver only). Then they take that transponder to the pill draw table and give the scorer the serial number. If you own your own serial number then you will skip the transponder table and simply go to the pill draw table with your serial number. At that time you will then draw your pill like always. So to answer your question only the driver of the car pays the transponder fee.

I have to say that transponders are awesome and are a great addition, but i see the point some are making. Why should it fall on the driver to pay more money because the track wants to upgrade? If a driver feels the need to upgrade I dont see the track offering to pay them more each night so that they can run faster. If a track wants to use transponders and wants to make it mandatory then they should supply them, not rent them out but supply them each night for free to the drivers. You are now going to charge the drivers an extra 10 bucks a night but still keep the tow money the same? This is where this sport is going wrong, make the drivers pay more but pay them the same. Fuel and parts have gone up in price but yet drivers are still expected to spend that to make the same amount of money they were making in 1970. Someone said if 20 bucks is going to make or break your night as a racer then you prolly shouldnt be racing, i could not disagree with that more. Some people dig and dig for the next week of racing and now your telling them they have to spend more money but bring home the same amount, its not right. IF you want to upgrade the track then you should pay for it just like we pay for it when we upgrade our cars/trucks. IMO
