And if you stuck a pavement car on a track the size of AMP it would not reach 100 mph either. Your point? I bet dirt lates would go 100 on the old dirt Clearfield track without the aid of asphalt grip. Apples and Oranges. You will NEVER see a dirt latemodel go that fast at amp or hummingbird so...good luck with that thought. very few dirt tracks and say they have a latemodel that can even reach 100 mph. Dirt LOOKS fast, but in all reality they are going slow. they spin out and stop with in 10 feet. on the pave track when they spin, they will slide half way down the straight. hell the pavement street stocks will slide that far and they are essentially a dirt Pure stock. The speed is the difference. and pavement is just a different style of racing to enjoy. everyone that comes on here that complains about it being "boring"...is just ignorant to the fact of understanding the WORK it takes to be fast at a pavement track compared to a dirt car. Tiny adjustments on pavement can take you from being slow to a winning car or visa versa. Dirt...its forgiving, and hell ive seen guys loose a cyl. and still be competitive and win at times. on the pavement you might as well pull in cause youll be lapped in two laps.
I like dirt. because they have the car counts right now, and there are more tracks, but if Clearfield can find a way to get 15-20 cars per class, there will be NO ONE on here saying its boring...haha but yet, that remains to be seen.

they were well over 100 a little after the flagstand when it was dirt, and cut through the infield. imagine if it was the full length dirt track! And if you stuck a pavement car on a track the size of AMP it would not reach 100 mph either. I guess I wasn't clear enough to you guys over reacting. Fact of the matter is Pavement is faster. my point is in the local area speed is the difference. I never said dirt latemodels cant reach 100 ?? so you point means nothing. ive been to lernerville and I know the speed it carries so spare me your "all knowing dirt knowledge" haha I know what im talkin about. fact is that on an equal surface size, pavemet cars will be faster. you make lernerville paved and you would notice it. NOW....to clear things up before you jokers go nuts....im not saying they should PAVE lernerville. im simply stating the fact of the difference between speed in pavement and dirt. I love both, so quit getting so defensive. I am not naïve, and have traveled way further than most of you can imagine to see races. I know. I get it. haha so get over yourselves.
with that being said, I hope Clearfield works out. pavement, or dirt. that track has always been my favorite to be at!

Where's the like button? Are asphalt races truly faster speeds? A quick search may have you rethink that.
Bristol speeds in ASA late models- avg speeds in the mid 120s
Bristol speeds in a cup car- avg in the mid to high 120s
Bristol speed in a dirt late model in 2000- 121.443 in just a test session first time ever running
Same track, different surface. I'll take the dirt. Now, as much as late models have improved since then, and if they ran on it and learned year after year..... They'd be FLYING!

i'm not sure who you think you are or why you act like you're so much better than everyone else. i wasn't trying to be defensive against your comment or opinion, but if the case arises, i will defend dirt track racing until the day i die. whether you like it or not. so get off your high horse. i don't need your "all knowing racing knowledge" and i'm sure others can do without it as well. and the point has been proven above, that 10 years ago or whenever they put dirt on bristol, speeds were faster. get your facts straightI guess I wasn't clear enough to you guys over reacting. good point....other than the fact you guys forgot about MOTOR size difference between cup cars and dirt latemodels.....? cubic inch? big difference there as well. BUT I will admit, banking can affect how much speed a dirt car can carry around the track. so ok...got me there, you found one track. ouch, I guess my facts aren't straight at all!?? that 1 case out of 100 disproves everything. hahahahaha
Gofast05, never did I claim to know all, if you didn't sense the sarcasm. AND I never acted better than ANYONE else tough guy. My reaction was a broad statement to multiple posts...not yours in particular, so calm down kid. this is what I was talkin about being so defensive....YOU, Gofast05, overreact. point proven above.
on another note...you can defend dirt racing all you want, i respect that, but If you cant appreciate the effort it takes to make a pavement car to work, as a fan/driver that you are, than you are ignorant to what I have been talking about this whole time. I......as a fan....respect pavement teams, because i have been on both...dirt and pavement, and know that pavement is WAY harder. dirt doesn't take a quarter of the effort to the car to make it good or for that matter, competitive at all on the track. THAT, incorporated with the speed...is what I love about Pavement!

So 900hp in a cup car is less power than 900hp in a late model? Hmmm interesting theory. I picked ONE track as an example because it was the only track I could think of that was both dirt and asphalt recently that I could find times in 5 min on google. If you want to try similar tracks, look at the speeds at ppms compared to CNB. Similar size and configuration. If you are stuck on motor size still, compare pure stocks on those two tracks. I bet times are near identical. What are times on a little paved track like the 1/4 mile bowman gray? I bet they are slow as balls just like AMP. Like Ramey said, we have a fast paved track compared to the dirt tracks in the same area. You can't make the statement pavement in general is faster though.

Dirt late models weight almost 1000lb less then a Cup car or ASA late model.
Pavement winged 410 sprint cars were almost two seconds a lap faster than their dirt counterparts were. That's more of a fair comparison.
