Dirt late models weight almost 1000lb less then a Cup car or ASA late model.
Pavement winged 410 sprint cars were almost two seconds a lap faster than their dirt counterparts were. That's more of a fair comparison.
Bigger Cubes, And lighter cars will pull more speed at times. It is tough to make a comparison because the rules are so different. you cant compare purestocks or SS because a Pavement Pure is more often than not a TRUE stock 305. where as on dirt they are pretty much a LIGHT SS. I agree above that that is a better comparison between WEIGHT and Cubic inch. Nice post BaconBits!

I can't remember the times but when the STARS dirt late models raced on the Clearfield asphalt back in the day they were most definitely faster than the asphalt late models then. Larry Moore was crazy fast around that place that night.
And to the guy that says it's easier to set up a dirt late model than an asphalt late model maybe you can give Robby Allen and Tommy Hicks a call and set up a seminar to show them how easy it is.....
Setup isn't easier, but if you miss the setup on a dirt car, sometimes you can adjust your line and such to make it work. On tar, if you miss the setup, you're f*cked.
I learned that having crewed on both surfaces in the same division back in the DIRT/Asphalt days of modified racing.

1/8 inch most certainly makes a difference on dirt. it may not be as drastic as on asphalt but it most definitly makes a difference.I didn't say it was "easy" to set up a dirt LM, I said it was easier, surely you will admit that dirt is more forgiving? Because it is...when is the last time that a change of 1/8 inch on a dirt late made a difference? I can tell you when, never...but it makes a big difference on asphalt.
