A new stock car series is set to debut in 2014. Spearheaded by a local veteran of the stock car class, the Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series will be developed utilizing a minimum of 10 races scattered throughout Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. The series will guaranty a $5000.00 point fund that will pay ten positions. The point fund will increase if additional drivers commit to the series. It is the intent of the series to give local stock car racers from throughout the region an opportunity to travel and participate in a quality program that will offer them a significant point fund and championship.
The series plans to choose their ten events from signature "open" stock car events that already exist at several regional speedways. Some of the tracks they hope to include are Sharon Speedway (Hartford, Ohio), Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, PA), Mercer Raceway Park (Mercer, PA), Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway (Pittsburgh, PA) and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, PA). The races will be ran under the speedway's rules, purse structures and procedures.
Points will be awarded for feature races only with the winner receiving 100 points, and second through the remainder of the series drivers receiving 2 less per finishing position. Any series driver who does not qualify will receive 70 show-up points. Racers registration fee must be paid in full for the entire series before he will be awarded points. Additional details including the 2014 schedule of events, point fund break down, and registration form will be released soon.
Already several of the area's top stock drivers have expressed a strong interest in the concept and agreed to pay their annual registration fee. The number of series followers is expected to grow beyond 10. Veteran Stock Car driver Shaun Hooks has been instrumental in getting the series off the ground, “There is no real series for the stock car class and several of us drivers discussed the concept and think it will be a very good deal for our class. 100% of the money raised through entry fees will be paid out of the point fund” noted Hooks.
A website www.pennohioprostocks.com will be up and operational very soon as well as a Facebook page. Both sponsorship and contingency program opportunities are available. For more information on the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series contact Shaun Hooks at (724) 730-1623
